Type 1 and sexual desire

Hi all,
This is my first post, so I apologise now for any errors or faux-pas..
I have a question that I have been seeking an answer on here for, but my failure to do so worries me even more.
I have been a type 1 insulin dependant for 7 years. For the first 5 of those years I was single and so the issue of sex never really came up, but for the last 2 years I have been in a very loving relationship. Everything is fine apart from bedroom gymnastics. I just don't have a sex drive at all anymore and sex seems like a chore to me. I don't even masturbate. (Honestly!) I must admit, my Bg control has always been very poor, and levels in the 20's are not unusal for me. I have a great deal of pain in my legs which doesn't help the situation (making sex seem like agonizing exercise rather than pleasurable). I did have a very tight foreskin, so recently had a circumcision, but this didn't help either as I still get a great deal of stretching pain when I begin an erection. This obviously kills the erection immediatley. I have been prescribed Viagra to help maintain an erection, but without success. I just get a headache and feel flushed.
To cut a long story short - I just can't seem to 'want' to have sex. I really do worry that my partner will get fed up of this, even though they say it's ok. It really isn't ok.
Has anyone else found that Diabetes has robbed them of their sex drive, and is my genital and leg pain related to my high Bg levels?
Sorry for all the personal details, but I'm fed up and want to want sex again.

not sure about sex drive but I know how drained I am if my bloods are high! i don't want to do anything even at 12 so maybe that's what you're experiencing! try lowering your bloods a bit you might have a bit more energy and motivation!!

Thanks for the reply, but I do have days where my levels are spot on, around 5-6 and still have the issue. Even when I'm riding high, I'll actually go do something to keep myself busy rather than face it!

Having the odd day of normal levels wil probably not help you feel better. A good week of consistent normal levels will probably do wonders for you and your libido. If you are struggling with achieving this see your dsn or doc to discuss meds/diet. After only a day of higher readings makes me feel **** for a few days, worse than a hangover. When consistent much better in and out of bed :)
