Type 1 and Strep A

Lucie&Lex

Newbie
Hey, I’m a mum of a 13 year old girl, she was diagnosed out of the blue with bloods 29.8 and a faint on 2.2.22 ,
No family history nothing!!
Just wondering if anyone has any info on the strep a virus that is currently spreading and how it could affect my daughter, what the advice is ext, has similar symptoms but there isn’t anything I can find that relates to the virus and T1! I will contact the hospital tomorrow but I’m having a panic (as we do)
Thanks in advance x

Hi @Lucie&Lex and welcome to the forums.

Not sure your daughter being T1 affects her risk of strep A but in general sick T1s tend to need more insulin and to check for ketones if their blood sugars go high.

Hopefully your team have given you sick day insulin dosing rules to follow if your daughter is sick?

Good luck and I hope she feels better soon.
