Type 1 & Backed up!

Hi,

Bit of a blunt question, does anyone have trouble going to the loo?

I can go up to 5+ days without a number two, before I was diagnosed type 1 I was fine..

My diet is pretty much normal fare, I have removed sugars but not much else.. I eat more fruit and veg than before, so I would have thought the opposite would be the case.. I suffer no real discomfort in fact I forget for days at a time, its kind of weird..

Is this normal or should I be concerned?

I used to have some severe probs with getting backed up involving ambulances, morphine, hospitals, wtc.

Long story but cutting it short..

My probs were jelly babies.

Resolution: change hypo stopper and also very imprtantly have a teaspon or two everyday if flaxseed.

Really bad and under threat of an electronic gadget in stomach.. To pure good working stomach

Try keep drinking plenty of water and keep active .
This will help keep things moist and moving :D

Essential to keep rehydrated regardless .

I had this problem for many months after diagnosis and eventually went to the gp red faced and embarrassed thinking I was the only one, but apparently it's quite common in diabetics (no idea why) but he gave me a prescription for movicol and sorted the problem straight away. I now always have an emergency stash of sachets for when nothing else works. Its worth mentioning to your gp to see if they can help either with movicol or something similar

I'm in almost same boat but no ambulance or morphine I've never tried flaxseed I'm taking 4 Senna a night and 20ml twice daily of Lactulose solution and I still don't go for 4-5 days it use to be 10+ days before this. I eat hell of a lot of veg and drink at least 4-5 litres of water a day that's my main drink, and avoid anything that's binding, had various tests etc and it's always blamed on gastroporiasis . And by god it's always windy in our house gale force even.

The other great one is Psyllium Husks. If I'm having a slow week, a couple of these always seems to get me moving.
