Hi there!
Let me introduce myself and apologies for a probably lengthy post here.
My name is Michael and I'm 28, I was diagnosed with type 1 about 4 years ago, in my senior year of college. I have no diabetes history in my immediate family (not even grandparents and not even type 2).
Up until now i actually adapted pretty well to the disease, i am generally on a low carb diet and use lantus for my basal and humalog insupen for when i eat carbs, about once a day. I am pretty fit and i like to walk, run or do any kind of sport.
The problem is work, the thing is that before i was diagnosed i was training to do security work since before college ( state security apparatus, military and police, rescue services etc), in this regard i was part of a disaster intervention team of the Red cross and trained with them for 5-6 years under the supervision of someone from state security, i also play airsoft (something similar to paintball) for about 9 years now and do medieval reenactment and HEMA (medieval martial arts) since 2015.
So as you all see i was training for unusual jobs that put saving people or protecting them above all else, even money or my own safety. Even when i was a volunteer and people treated me badly, at the end of the day i felt i had accomplished something and my life had meaning. Unfortunately because of the disease i can no longer work in my desired fields.
Now for about 4 years i am stuck doing office ( at the request of my doctor) jobs which I sincerely hate, i like to move around, interact with people and when i sit down and do repetitive tasks my mind just goes crazy, also the fact that if i eat and have glycemia spikes i lose a lot of concentration for a few hours and sincerely can't do just as good a job as the healthy people. And i get some **** at work for this also. Also the fact that alto i work as a customer service agent for a Irish based Airline i get paid in...pretty much change doesn't help with the motivation either.
My question to you guys is... well based on your experience what can i do to either raise my work efficiency or if you know some domains in which a type 1 can work that aren't so static.
Thanks for your answers!
