Type 1: Can i take milk and eggs?

Maybe it was the Desmond course MickyFinn? I went on that course and they advised drinking full fat milk.

Hi Everyone,

As type 1, can i take Milk,Curd, Eggs and Chechen in my daily food ? will it spike the glucose level ?

Hi. I did my carb counting refresher the other week. You dont count eggs in your insulin as they are a protein. Milk has to be carefully looked at due to the lactose. Having small amounts in tea and coffee are fine and don't need insulin but say if your having a large glass of milk I would take insulin and also with cereal etc. I've never had curd or the other thing. But, my dietician and dn never said to avoid egg and milk.

I only include the milk I have on my cereal. I use skimmed milk as cuts out all the fat. For tea and coffee I do not include it. Never have counted eggs though. Been diabetic for 46 years and eggs have never affected my blood glucose. No nurse or doctor has told me to include them. Hope this helps.☕

Maybe they meant that milk wasnt "free"? I know that some people seem to put about half a pint in their coffee : D That would affect blood sugar. and, as you imply, some people might not think to count carbs in drinks like a glass of milk.

Milk is ok as a drink as long as the carbs are counted. I used to measure it carefully but now I have a handy glass that exactly holds 10g carbs worth of milk : D

But certainly there may be other reasons to avoid milk.

I hope your Crohns stays ok. I don't know much about it, but I know that it's not at all pleasant.
They suggested that the lactose in milk enters the blood quickly because it's a liquid and can spike it.

Having looked it up, there seems to conflicting advice that large boils down to opinions. All it does is create confusion and that is no help to any of us!

However, I doubt a little in coffee etc would be too much of an issue.

And thanks, the Crohn's will have to stay okay, I decided it has to!

It could have been the dafne of the Desmond course, but they had renamed it after the town the hospital is in!

Either way, the concept of these courses is basically the same isn't it, carb counting and achieving better bg control.

Stick to almond milk, soya is detrimental to health in other ways, namely that it raises oestrogen levels.

Just researched high oestrogen levels , scary stuff!

I am really sorry for typo mistake. I mean to say chicken not chichen.(i.e. white meat)

Thanks all for sharing the experience. Actually my dietician told me to take only skimmed milk(1 glass) and more diluted curd( 1 glass) in whole day. I should have to take only 50 to 100 gm white meat per week.

But I have completely avoided this food from my diet due to risk of spike of glucose. I was very much curious to know the experience on this food from other person.

Have any one faced the spike on glucose level after having fried or grilled chicken or fish? Is it advisable to eat like this or not?

Both are healthy foods so I don't see why you would avoid them, I eat both without any issues.

When you say spike do you mean eating fish/chicken on their own (as in a snack) causes a bg spike, if so you may need to bolus for them if you don't already.
