Type 1
hi,, we have just booked our first family holiday abroad since my daughter had been diagnosed with type 1. basically im after every single scrap of advice you guys can give, but my first concern is, she carb counts, and at home its reasonably simple to get some sites via the web to get through a meal out, however, we are off to Tunisia and im very worried about working her ratios out? all and any help welcomed,, thanks all.

You may have to accept things are going to be a little bit more up and down while you are away, but there are a couple of tools that can help. You can use the MyFitnessPal app to look at nutritional information for a wide range of products. You can even scan barcodes to bring up results. However, a lot of this data is user input, so reliability cannot be assured. I would also suggest getting the book Carbs and Cals. It gives typical nutritional information for huge amounts of food and drink, with photos to show portion size.
I don't do much travelling, but I have toyed with the idea of buying a freestyle libre continuous glucose monitoring device for when I am away from my normal routine. The sensors last a couple of weeks, and will give you constant glucose readings. That way, you can avoid any nasty surprises. However, this is not currently funded on the NHS. You can get the device for around £160 with a couple of sensors included. After that, the sensors are between £50 and £60 to replace. Definitely too expensive for me to fund year round, but might be good for an occasional trip.

The Carbs and Cals book is brilliant.
There's an app too, but I hear the book is better (haven't downloaded it myself).

we have thwe book and I had the app,, however I have to say,, I find it far to vague to be of use,, but as a reference, yes great,, out of the 2,, go for the app,, it updates so you get new foods etc instead of being stuck with just what you have in the book,, but thanks anyway.
