I am Coeliac of 12 years standing...and T2 diabetic since Sept 2008.
There are several bits of advice I can give you for the Coeliac...is read the labels on every food item that you are going to eat.
Never, ever, get caught out without food. You will become paranoid about not being able to have anything...this can sadly, be true when travelling....so as a good Boy scout should...be prepared!!
Its not just a matter of avoiding the obvious wheat/rye/barley/oats....its the "hidden" gluten...that can be ANYwhere....even in salads....(the crutons).
Join C-UK...and the local group for the support. Go to the events....you need the support.
Plan ahead for meals...and go through your cupboards, pantry and freezer....and get rid of anything that has gluten. (Or feed to other family members).
You need a separate toaster ..crumbs have nasty habit of getting anywhere....plus watch for others using butter knife etc.
Treat yourself to a a cook book...plenty available...or use local library..or a bit of on line research.
In the C-UK handbook (The Food and drink directory.) there are lists of suitable items....including jelly babies....
I will say that I live very well...my cooking has improved, (wasnt a slouch before I was gf).
If you need help away from here...email me at work
[email protected] (that also applies to the rest of you....).
What will happen...is that in about a month of so...you will feel a lot better....just in time for Christmas....and I cant think of much else I want for you...but to be happy and healthy....
