Type 1 Diabetes in Children

Interesting paper @Duncan Mackay . I see it also refers to genetic risk score. You might be interested in a project in the US. It’s premise is to prevent children and adults from reaching the point of DKA before diagnosis of T1. It came into being after a young girl tragically died from DKA after going on holiday.
It is a screening program that identifies genetically susceptible children and adults. T1 is potentially identifiable at a very early age in children, and potentially at any point in genetically susceptible adults. Those at risk are monitored for genetic shifts and the emergence of autoantibodies. I am in the at risk category, if I lived in the US I would be in this program. We don’t have this program in Canada. My own Dr practised medicine in the US and is frustrated it’s not available outside of the US. There is a YouTube presentation called ‘From Uncertainty to Empowerment: The Journey in Type 1’
The presentation is in 3 parts. I’m having trouble pasting the URL here , but if you look up the title it will come up on YouTube.

I’m guessing they would have to implement a screening program for babies at risk of T1, similar to the US one I mentioned. The criteria being , genetically susceptible + first-degree relative with T1 and or the presence of at least 1 autoimmune antibody.
