Hi all I'm after a little advice my hb1ac has been in the high 80's / 90's the last few times I've been tested I've just started with the carb counting starting to get my head around that but my bloods seems to be very erratic, I've been looking at a dexcom. G4 or G5. In other people's experience do they help in these type of situations, I would love to see a constant readout of what is happening

@tim2000s I think it's the way I need to go just after a bit of steer were to go I currently use finger prick tests and seem to miss so much..
I'm uk based. Out of interest what do you use ?

I'm on a Medtronic 640G pump so I use the Enlite/Guardian system with the pump that gives semi closed loop functionality...

HI @thomasm88 I had a similar problem for years with high blood sugars and terrible A1c's which always in the high 90's or above, and 3 months after getting the Dexcom G4 it was down to 58 and 3 mths later 47. It's not a golden bullet, and for me, I only got those results by using the CGM to understand the BG and then microdosing, but without CGM, I don't think I personally could have achieved like that, without it. There's a couple of great books that you can read to partner CGM in "Think Like a Pancreas" and "Sugar Surfing" which are well worth the read. Happy to answer any questions, specifically G4 related if you would like

@paullijeros what sort of life span do you get out of sensors / transmitters I'm a little stuck between G4 or G5. Are you on a pump ?

I am using G4, I cannot imagine my life without it anymore.
