Hi

I am 19 years old and have been diagnosed with diabetes 2 weeks ago. I started of with injections twice a day to keep my sugar level down, but then the numbers started to reach below 4 and my dr told me to move onto tablets instead, now with these tablets i am averaging around 8, but i am not eating anything with sugar or hardly carbs.

Its getting really frustrating and annoying not being able to eat what i want.

I really dont know what to do, i mean are there any NICE things to eat that won't affect my sugar levels.

sorry in advance for the slightly rage-y post, but its all too much.

Hey there,

As far as I understand type 1 can't really be treated with tablets and generally injections are always needed....did ur Dr. Not just try adjusting your insulin dose if you were going low? If you're type 1 and on injections you can eat what you want basically aslong as u inject the right amount of insulin to counteract the carbs... Carb counting courses are good for this. If you're type 2 and being treated with tablets then unfortunately diet is key. They dont know what type i am yet and i mostly eat meat, cheese, butter, eggs, veg, some fruit, yogurts so its not all bad but I think really you might benefit from speaking to your doctor about what type of diabetes you really have as like I say, type 1 wouldn't normally be treated with tablets..... I might be wrong though and I'm sure if any other type 1s take tablets they will be along shortly to advise :-)
