Hi everyone! Just a quick question. If my BS has raised from 16.3 to 17.3 in 15 minutes what's the best course of action? I've had no advice from doctors on what to do if my blood sugar is high and as this is the highest I've been since diagnosis 6 weeks ago I'm a bit worried. Any advice would be great!

Going from 16.3 to 17.3 could just be a normal variation in the readings your meter gives. It's common to get two slightly different readings if you test twice close together.

If you don't know how to do a correction dose, then all you can do is continue to monitor it, drink plenty of water, and see how things go.

are you able to,test for ketones?

I'm not sure why it's high at all to be honest. I'm not ill. I have tested and no ketones so far (thankfully) but have tested again and I'm now 18.3. Could it just be the meter?

There's a few possibilities including the meter, maybe you miscalculated the carbs in your previous meal, missed out your bolus dose for the same meal, forgot to take your basal insulin or the insulin in one of your pens may have spoiled (do be sure to change your pen if it's been in use for 28 days or more).

May check if any of the above are possible.

It could be but to be safe I'd change your insulin pens just in case the insulin has 'gone off' and become less effective.

How long ago did you eat and what did you have? How much insulin did you inject?
