Hi there thank you for the information i have not long moved to Dundee from a different area and i havent had a diabetic appointment even though I was ment to have one in October and it was on my notes but haven't had any correspondence.Be aware that heat can cause hypos. You may have to lower your insulin doses. Make sure you have hypo treatments with you at all times (just in case) and test often.
Frio bags are very useful for keeping your insulin cool, so you should treat yourself to some of appropriate sizes.
Keep yourself hydrated, as blood sugar results can be affected by dehydration.
You should carry a letter from your DSN/doctor, saying that you are Type 1 and need to carry insulin, needles and testing equipment. This is required going through security, though people are rarely asked for it. You should not need to pay for it (your DSN is the one to ask for this.)
The first holiday is the most worrying but you'll be fine. Enjoy it!
I would contact the hospital that was meant to see you in October and ask to be put through to the Diabetes Centre (or clinic) and ask what happened to your appointment. If that doesn't work, ask your GP for a referral. It is your right to be under the care of a consultant.Hi there thank you for the information i have not long moved to Dundee from a different area and i havent had a diabetic appointment even though I was ment to have one in October and it was on my notes but haven't had any correspondence.
Hello everyone,i am in need of some help i am going on my first holiday abroad in June since being diagnosed could anyone help me as i have no idea what i need to do. Can anyone help ?
Thank youGet a doctor's letter for security. Make sure it's non-specific on dates, etc, so you can use it for future holidays too.
Take twice as much insulin and test strips as you calculate you'll need.
Take some glucose tablets too, depending on where you're going, as they're neat to carry and not always available or cheap.
When you're away, test lots as holidays can mean more exercise, different foods, etc, which can affect your blood sugar.
Have a great time!
