Type 1: Hubby's levels out of control

I guess my main questions are:
we assume his levels are sky rocketing despite hardly eating anything because his liver is dumping glucagon either in response to stress or because he is getting no energy from his food. If this is the case, how is the LCHF diet going to ever work for him?
What can I do to help him to help himself?
What can I do just generally, or not do to support him? Just any help/advice would be very much appreciated.

The other thing I thought was what blood glucose meter does he use? I have the Accu-Chek Aviva Expert which once set up gives insulin dosage advice which I find really helpful; it will calculate insulin on board (as long as you tell it when you are taking insulin) and dependent on your ratios say what you should take for whatever carbohydrate you are about to eat. This might help with the correction dose issues.

The FreeStyle InsuLinx does the same thing (but is a bit clunky in my opinion) but if he's on the Libre then that might make more sense?

@Dillinger

The Libre has the same IOB/ratio calculator as the insulinx and the insulinx display is dire compared to the libre (and I'm being kind saying dire)

Thanks for the info, I'll look into those. He's had a couple of better days just now, levels staying under about 14, which is a big improvement but obviously a long way to go! But at least his mood may improve and we can talk about things more.
