So I've been on the Keto diet for 2 weeks now and have to say my blood sugars are amazing!! my last Hbalc was 6.1 not that bad I know but what I've come to learn is that Hbalc results are only the half of it sugars spikes are the thing that does the damage so a low carb diet seems to be the right way to go for me on my journey. My sugar haven t been above 6 whatsoever which is amazing and i feel great,no sweaty feeling after meals with carbs!!I'd go as far as to say that the advice that you get from the health services that you need at least 30grams of carbs with each meal is all wrong!!low carb should be introduced as the norm to keep diabetes complications at bay, carbs are the killer imo and sugar spike are hard to control.

I think I'm right in saying you're not on insulin @wiserkurtious ?

I can see how very low carb would help you if that's the case.

I'm on insulin and aim for moderate carbs and keep the spikes down as I agree that's really important.

true no insulin so the diets perfect for me atm, when if i ever do need to go onto insulin than maybe i ll change my diet a little, like a carb day a week ;)

more carbs the harder to control,I totally get why people go low carb, two slices of bread would raise my sugars to around 9 food I'm eating now I've very little blood sugar spikes which is brilliant,I see my diabetes as a way of discipline and will do all in my power to keep these horrible complications at bay for as long as possible.

Lol : D It'd be easier to spread your carbs over the week : D Insulin is a great tool when used properly :)

I'm pleased you're still managing to control your BS by diet. That's great news :) You're an unusual Type 1 (in a nice way) and very lucky to have such a length of time without insulin.

certainly don t feel lucky, none of us on here are lucky ;) but oo well thats like i suppose we've been dished our cards now and what ll will be will be!! can only try our hardest right :)

Well done too you
I couldn't do a low carb diet simply because i love my carbs and I'm a bit of a fussy eater by most peoples standards.

A typical meal wether it be my packed up work meal or my cooked meal at home would be 60 grams of carbs. A snack could be between 10 and 20 grams of carbs.

Some folk might shudder at the thought of my usual 90 gram oat, walnut and sultanna breakfast, it is a hearty meal though, i could quite easily reduce the quantities but i like a filling breafast.

Regards

Martin

Obviously when taking insulin I might think a little different about things when experimenting with insulion but in the position I'm in now think a low carb diets best for me,people with type 2 diabetes should give the low carb diet a shot :)

I think you'll find that many of us type 2s actually do (and usually recommend it too to anyone who'll listen!) :p:p
