Hi all I'm 18 yr type 1, 37 yrs old. my boy is 7 an my daughter is 2 am pretty sure since I started my family my sugers have been really **** my Mrs took them to see her family for bout 8 days in those 8 days my sugers turned back to how they used to be (good I mean) I was working goin gym and feel like on top of the world they have been back for 2 days and I'm all over place I sort of can't believe it I even feel gutted they cry winge moan want this and that makes me sad to think this is me
 
I think it's definitely harder to control your sugars perfectly if you have young children because, especially with babies or toddlers, you can't plan your schedule so much.

You did mention them fussing though and I wonder if stress could be affecting your sugars?
 
Yup my levels have been much harder to control since my 2 year old came along. I think it's mainly that you just don't have time to do things like exercise or prepare proper meals for yourself etc... Have you got any exercise equipment at home (like an exercise bike)? It might be easier to find time for this than going to the gym. Also could you have a family swimming outing at the weekend? I always find that good exercise...

The hardest part of the day I find is after tea when I have a bit of a play with him before bed. Without knowing what we're going to be doing (reading a book or sprinting round the house) it's really hard to get the tea bolus right, I'm treating a hypo at least 50% of evenings at the moment! Not really much advice but you're not the only one! Things do seem to be getting easier as he gets older though so that's something :)
 
Are you snacking along with your kids? I found that my diabetes improved when i had my son because my life became much more regular and I made more effort with meals, etc. I think you probably need to discuss having a good routine and a good diet with your wife. If you are willing to take on half of the shopping and cooking routine, I'm sure that will help. You can also make sure that you are not consuming lots of hidden carbs too.
I used to exercise with my son. We used to go the park regularly, go swimming and ride our bikes everywhere. I also cycled to work every day. All those things really improved my control, set my son up with good habits, and gave a us a good, solid relationship.
I think diabetes can be combined very well with family life. And a good routine would benefit your wife too. Her health would improve too, I'm sure.
