Type 1 Pregnancy planning-Help!

Hello,

I am 29 and have always had fairly up and down control. After going on the DAFNE course I now am gradually getting better and better control.

I am planning on trying for a baby next year after our first wedding anniversary and want to have more than 12 weeks good control before trying to conceive. I believe if I start the ground work now and continue it, it can only help.

I was just looking for some positive stories on pregnancy and birth from a diabetic type 1. It's all very negative on the web. I feel like I am making it into a big deal and stressing myself out more than I should be!!!

Thanks :)

Hi there  I just wanted to let you know I had my daughter nearly 12 years ago at 42! Type one for over 10 years then. When I spoke to my Diabetes doctor about trying for a baby at over 40 is was very pleased and supportive and didn't have any negativity. So we went ahead and my pregancy was pretty straight forward for 7 months. Just because we have a medical condition it doesn't mean we cant do anything and do everthing that non diabetics do, including starting a family. I wish you good luck and dont let anyone put you off. Its the unknown that is scary and you sound as though you are making a good start. I'm sure there will be some pregnant ladies or new mums that will be along to help and advise you. Best wishes RRB

Thank you for your positive feedback! :D

You are very welcome and I wouldn't change a thing, she is a little star :D ( wellllllllllllll most of the time, getting into those awkwark years  ) Take care with best wishes RRB

Also posting on this thread as myself and partner are thinking about pregnancy in the future and would love to hear more from other type 1 diabetics (I'm type 1) about their experiences etc with pregnancy and the pros/cons etc.

How strange I was about to post something on here about trying for a family too. Can anyone tell me what the likelihood is of the baby developing diabetes? I would love a family but this is worrying me.

Thanks
