Hi it's that time of year again when I have my annual bloods for GP review.
I feel I maintain a healthily , fairly low carb diet. I avoid pasta rice cereals etc and do not eat processed foods.
My results have disappointed me.
My total chol is 7mmols Hdl 2.8mmol trigs 0.7mmols and Ldl 4mmols.
I've now been offered statins which I've always felt a bit reluctant to take .
The other issue was my liver ALT was slightly raised which is unusual for me and my Thyroid blood test was slightly raised.
I'll add that I'm 56 and post menopausal as i know this can effect cholesterol levels.
Any advice on how I can reduce cholesterol levels .
I already have oily fish olive oil etc.
Do I need to increase fibre?
I'm concerned that I am risking my health if I do not take the statins as advised, yet I read such differing opinions on them
In response to your other post on this subject, I suggested you read about the lean Mass Hyper- Responder study and our Cholesterol and Statins thread:
There are always a lot of threads about Statins and Cholesterol and we all post our various favourite bits of current presentations about them but I thought it might be handy to have them all in one thread. I meant to put this together soon after the get together in Birmingham (sorry @Debandez)...
