Hi all, I am type 1 have been since I was 5 (now 28), on Novorapid x3 daily and Lantus of an evening. Recently had all my insulin increased, gained a stone in four weeks since - BMI is 33.5 and overweight.
Going for thyroid test on Friday to see if that could be a concern, Dr has also mentioned changing my insulin completely and seeing me next Wednesday to go over medication and results. Wondering if this has happened to anyone else before?

Hi Lauren, I'm not T1, but do have a wonky thyroid.

In terms of your thyroid, weight gain is a common symptom something is amiss, in terms of the thyroid under-performing. Quite often the weight gain is accompanied by fatigue, low mood. The NHS list of potential symptoms show there are lost of symptoms, and plenty of those are shared with other condition.

Thankfully, initial investigations for thyroid conditions is a simple blood test.

Whatever it is, I hope you get to the bottom of it all soon.

Thank you for the reply, yeah one of the tests are for thyroid function so will see what the Dr says tomorrow on that. Are you on medication for your thyroid & has it helped with the weight side of things?

Yes, I take medication for my thyroid.

It can take a while to wort out appropriate dosing, because hormone replacement, which is pretty much what thyroid meds are, has to start low and build up.

Weight gain was not a symptom for me. My main symptom was feeling very, VERY cold at all times, including in Tropical climates. But, as I mentioned, the list of potential symptoms for thyroid disease is very long, but we don't have to have them all. Thank goodness!

As well as doing a Thyroid Function Test, which tests TSH, I do hope they have included thyroid antibodies tests. Already having one auto-immune condition can render you more liable to others.

If you get no joy with your GP, please mention your concerns to your Endo at your next diabetes review.

Back from Drs, all bloods seem in order liver one is a little high Dr said could be down to the weight increase.

Wants to put me on weight loss injections has anyone else had this for Type 1?
