Type 1: Would you trust your OH whole heartidly with managing your Diabetes for a day?

That's much more complicated than managing diabetes for a man! I think i would have more luck launching the space shuttle to pluto by blindly pressing buttons than actually doing something right, according to wife's standards, in the household.
 
I think I could trust my OH to try his best but I think he would struggle with working out the carbs. He gets confused by the per 100gs and the of which sugar part but he's learning.

I'm on a pump so all he would have to do is test and type in the amount of carbs. He knows how to change my cannula and things like that.
He knows what my levels should be and what to do if they're low, again the pump would calculate my correction.

If I was on injections then he would struggle without a doubt.

It would be interesting to do this for a day though to see how they cope and so they can see how much hard work we put in behind the scenes
 
this thread completely relates to something i mention to any medical peep slow enough to get caught having to listen to me

wouldn't it be great to have a respite place we could go where someone else would do the thinking for us for a week
 
Sorry, and I've said this to my love of my life. No way!

I was busy working, and I asked her to get the on line shopping in.

I sent half of it back.

I would let her cook, if I told what to cook, but knowing what I can and can't eat is a mystery to her, which she just can't get her head around.

I usually do mine and hers shopping, I do my cooking, and sometimes cook hers.

Oh yeah! The wife is T2!

I make sure she low carbs!

Go figure!

Hell I'd like to have a week off too but I don't want to go anywhere I'd just like a working week off from the big D!
 

I just asked my wife out of curiosity if she would be able to do it. She summed up what i eat from morning until evening and forgot just one protein shake and she missed my basal units for the evening by two. She nearly always cooks (like 99.99% of the time) and knows what contains lots of carbs and is low on carbs. So i'm feeling confident that my day wouldn't be too bad at all.
 
So I've had a chat with the other half, we ran through a made up day - she actually did way better than I thought - way better! So we're going to give it a go, when we come back from holiday next week. I only had one major hypo after she corrected wrongly. Of course this was only a 30min discussion we'll see how she handles 24hrs ! And yes we had Mac cheese and the dog never got walked! But I survived.
 
Absolutely, positively, definitely, nae chance! She hasn't got a scoobies!

This is posted in the Type 1 forum....our daily routine is a little more complicated than your diet-controlled type 2...

However, I would say that my fiancée is engaged to an idiot.

without trying to start a war -- there are so many things that go into everything I do on a daily basis i wouldn't trust many people to do things right for me-- the majority of responses are leaning in that direction and the thread is in a type 1 forum
( i would not wish to attempt some of the things type 2's have to go through either to be fair )

I didn't say that to suggest that you couldn't post in this forum.

I said it because I missed the humor in your post and thought you didn't understand what a typical day looks like for someone with T1.

As UrbanRacer mentioned, you're free to post wherever you'd like.

Actaually, thinking about it, I think I would trust my teenager, she knows what I eat, what I can't eat ( coeliac disease), but............. as it is Easter break for schools, 2 weeks, lol she is in bed when I go out to work, so hey ho

I would like to say that the OP has posted as,Type 1, which includes Insulin injections, or pump monitoring and regulating ( apologies If I have that wrong) I'm, MDI.
ps If a type 2 thread came up with the same title, I wouldn't and couldn't post, because it is not the same and doesn't relate to me, but I would still like to read the responses.

Now now children settle down, when I first read serenitys post I thought WHAT? And then realised the humour in it, an easy mistake to make and easy to reply in such a manner to ruffle a few feathers further. Let's get back to the original post and let it go.

Why does a 'war' have to break out when a Type 1 has posted a very interesting and relevant thread to type 1 management and then passing it on to someone for a day ?
