Type 1?

Hi all, I came out of hospital on saturday night after a three day stay with DKA, which was a bit of a shock as I didn't know I was diabetic! I was 50 years old on Friday, had a heart attack 6 years ago but otherwise am healthy and active. After the DKA I am certainly not overweight, having lost close to 2 stone in less than a month. I have been informed that I am "almost certainly" Type 1 and am taking insulin as a result: 16 insulatard mornings, 10 evenings, 7 Novarapid with meals. Today my (steadily falling) BG has been 14.8, 14.8 and 17.6. My reading on admission was 29. Great comfort to find this place (recommended by excellent Exeter Hospital diabetes team) and realise that there can be normality after diagnosis. My main concerns at the mo are the practicalities of riding old motorcycles and pursuing my beach bum summer weekend lifestyle without incurring damage that may endanger my health further, and continuing to eat interesting food whilst cutting back on carbs.
