Type 1s: Stupid non diabetic bingo

"You need to eat all the time, don't you.?"

No your thinking of sharks...

"No? Sharks need to keep moving to stay alive."

Now you are confused. That's me! See yah...

My girlfriend's brother's mate's wife works with a guy and he eat nothing but fruit for 6 months and his diabetes went away (did he have a pancreas)

This happens a lot. People going into this weird comparison mode and mentioning irrelevant stuff mildly related to diabetes.

The following is a conversation i once had with a class mate that came to know i had diabetes. It's not exactly verbatim but it went something like this: Oh wow you have diabetes, my second niece from my mother's side has a white cat called snibbels that just has the cuttest face ever! Anyway her previous owner had this weird cat, but that's besides the point. But the cat has ... Maybe it was my nephew's wife Janine that had the cat ... No it can't be Janine because she's allergic to cats. Must be my second niece from my mother's side ... but it's so odd i just saw you injecting and ... NO it IS Janine, she's allergic to orange jelly beans, not cats ... isn't that just weird? I know right ... Well Janine has a cat that has diabetes. Have you ever been on a flying submarine?

Ok i went a bit liberal on the transcript (very liberal) but people have this weird tendency to assume that i'm suddenly interested in every detail because they know someone that has diabetes.

Yes, it is - and we have a lot in common, and are together in the fight against diabetes, as are all other diabetes types. However, that doesn't mean we should disrespect an OP's request for specific types. There are plenty of threads that do the same.

If a Type 2 asks if, for example, any other T2s are having problems with Metformin, it would be extremely churlish for a Type 1 to post in that thread saying something along the lines of Type 1s on insulin have problems too,, etc.

No posts from Type 2s have been deleted or edited in this thread. All I asked was that people consider the young OP.

Its fine for them to post here

My favourite is "Have a bowl of ice cream, nothing will happen, you wont even need insulin"
and then there is me clenching my fist

Or "you can always reverse diabetes."
after explaining all the science to them,
"That's not true, all forms of diabetes can be reversed"
*shaking my head and holding my temper*

Lets not forget the very common
"ITS ALL YOUR OWN FAULT, YOU SCREWED UP"
and me ready to kill that person

"Have you got the good version, or the bad?"

I don't care which is which. I'm more concerned about the HIV from sharing needles.... ;)

Now the question is how to make the bingo board

You take a copy of the Daily Mail then fold it up as far as it will go, so you get a grid...
Take a picture of any "know it all" with your phone. These pictures can be printed off (to size) &'paste into a section of the "grid" on the paper. You can also use "profile pictures" from smart arses online too?

You take this "collage" of foolishness when the page is full & put it on a wall in a disused house.. Then call the police..
The police will show up to the house believing the faces on the wall are part of some elaborate "kidnapping plan"? :nailbiting:

Bingo! They all disappear on a "witness protection scheme"..:cool::cool:
Then wait for the next tabloid outcry about witness protection costing the "taxpayer" millions... ;)

My bingo knowledge goes about as far as 'two little ducks'.......Quack quack.

How many numbers are in a normal bingo game? so we'll need that number of 'stupid' comments................I reckon we're nearly there????!

I got that one when first diagnosed.

More recently I have got "but you are slim so how come you got it?"

My apologies if my comment was taken in a way I had not intended. I was not trying to be "churlish" or anything of the sort. I was trying to join in on a discussion that is relevant to all diabetics. Thank you for your comment @mc9

Believe it or not, I used to work in a holiday camp in the south west.. One of my "duties" was the bingo.
They used to take it very seriously.
"Kelly's eye..... Number one" "Paul Hardcastle.. 19." "key to the doooooooooor! Rumpty pum." That sort of thing...

Ah reading @Jaylee s post I've just remembered 'top of the shot - 90'! so we need 90 'sayings' - if we number each one and then the administrator post out a house/sheet to each of us we can then start crossing them off - and the administrator can provide line and house prizes?!?!?!? (I did work behind the bar at a social club that also did bingo on a sunday night, god forbid anyone spoke, murmured or coughed whilst 'eyes were down and looking')

In general,i find a lot of non diabetic people "know" a lot more about diabetes than you do.Really patronising and often totally bloody wrong.
