Hi Knikki, think I know the answer but here goes anyway

When you have a slightly high BG, eg 8 or above do you then take a small correction dose, to bring this back down even though you may have your Aspidistra perhaps 2 hours earlier. This seems to go against what I was advised on my ADAPT course.

The again I was told not to take a correction dose of 3 units or more at all.

I am sure that I did not have any Aspidistra in me as it was injected some 4hrs earlier and looking at the profiles it would appear that by that time it would all have been spent, near enough.

This time I did not correct when I hit 8 because I was wondering if it would flatten out at say 9 or 10, turns out that was not the case.

So tomorrow we will see and when I do/or hit 8 again then I will stick a corrective dose it probably 2 units? don't know. the pen I am using a pre-filled one and does not to half units.

I agree that 2 lots of 4 in a short time was probably not the right thing to do, but I hate being high and will happily inject to get me back down even if it means going red on the Etch A Sketch. But that is just me and why I like to do things.

I have never done any courses anything other than the Bertie Online but all that does is teach how to carb count and yes, I do need to go back and reread it.

This seems to go against what I was advised on my ADAPT course.

The again I was told not to take a correction dose of 3 units or more at all.

Out of interest what did the ADAPT course advise and why not correct with more than 3 units?

As an after thought I might try upping my morning dose of Lantus to see if that will slow the spike down, currently dropping the evening dose to try and stop me going red of a night

Oh the joys of T1D

Sort of. Mine on this topic went - mmm, I get 6 cartridges in a box. So as long as I have a full box come Feb it should be sorted by then.
But what if you end up posting spares to Forum friends in trouble? What if it's not sorted?
Shut up brain. If it's not sorted you won't function anymore...

I know a couple of people who work in the pharmaceutical industry and like all businesses they have to prepare for a "worst case scenario" and as far as I know they are very busy at the moment making all sorts of stuff.

But don't forget that it is a two way thing, there are medicine made in the this country and nowhere else and have to be shipped into Europe, plus it is not only diabetics that could be effected, also this with other long term illnesses will also be effected.

I'm not worried, not that is going to put your mind at rest plus there have been a couple of other threads floating around covering the same subject when it first popped up in the news.

We were advised that a unit of insulin would bring down BG by 3 steps. Think that might be OK as a generalisation but obviously each of us a re different. I find that 1 unit brings me down by 1 step so I am happy to have 8 units, if thats what it takes.

After around 37 years of being rigid with only 3 injections a day and pretty much fixed amounts of insulin at each injection the ADAPT course was a real eye opener for me. Also having the LIBRE has def give me more power to control my diabetes, not the other way round

Yes I have been working off that as well, was told that when you "hit 10 inject one unit and see how much that brings you down" problems is that at the moment I tend to sail past 10 and it does not stay there long enough for me to try that out

I have been a little like yourself, sticking to 3 almost set amounts of insulin, but since reading Bertie, getting Libre and reading all the things on this forum I am now a lot more flexible in how I live/deal with T1D.

Its all fun and learning and your never old enough to stop learning

Hope everyone is doing well, found myself in the hospital because I have gastroenteritis. Doing ok so far managed to keep a fairly good sugar to say how **** I feel

Jeepers how awful for you
Wishing you a speedy recovery
Enjoy the gourmet food

@helensaramay ive had exactly that conversation with myself......and then I say shut up you twonk if and that’s a massive big if it gets that bad as a country we’re all down the swanny in one way or another so if I run out of insulin it might be the easy way out!

Good evening to everyone.
Apologies for not joining in any of the chat recently, I do keep having a look at the thread but it’s like turning upto a party late.
Everyone is chatting and I’m trying to butt into a conversation for 5 minutes and then I’m off again.
I sincerely hope you are all managing and coping with life as well as the diabetes. I may not be on the forum pestering and waffling as usual for a while but you are all in my thoughts.

@helensaramay yep I have had a similar conversation with myself and her indoors. I often say to myself if there is a shortage the hospitals are going to be BERY busy with T1Ds being rushed into A&E. I really don't think there will be a shortage (fingers crossed).
Been on a steady 8 all evening with 10 pin bowling. Just checked and 7.8.
@Knikki I have been carb counting and altering doses for quite a few years now. Most if those years I was so far out it was untrue. I have only been a "good" diabetic since being told I have stage 4CKD and the thought of dialysis has really got me doing as much correctly as I possibly can.
And on that note I am going to say nos da all and see you in the morning

Certainly do argue with myself but not about this. As @Knikki said there've been other threads and @Robinredbreast got in touch with Eli Lilly about their plans for Brexit and they responded very positively. This is the thread and on this page there's also a link to Channel 4's factCheck which I thought was very telling https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/insulin-in-the-uk.154640/page-5

The conversation I have with myself is

Me: This is all political manoeuvering by an establishment that doesn't like change
Me: But...........
Me: But what? Do you remember the lorry drivers strike in 1999 where Armageddon was threatened, do you remember how much it inconvenienced your life?
Me: There is a tendency to exaggerate, isn't there...........
Me: What do you think would happen to the government if we ran out of insulin?
Me:
Me: Do companies, you know, get paid for supplying this insulin to the NHS?
Me: Yes of course, you idiot, it's a very profitable business
Me: oh well in that case there won't be a problem

Morning

Had a punnet of strawberries for my lunch yesterday and I had no intention of eating the lot I just did.
I have eaten more strawberries this year than I've eaten in my life and I can only assume its the weather that's caused the little darlings to taste so nice.

Happy times and places

Tony

For me, 1 unit should bring me down by 3 1/2, my DSN told me this a few years back. but it depends on how high BS is, am I being active or inactive, but generally I would say it brings me down by 4 now, I have to be careful as I can, at times drop more quickly. Oh the joys............not lol

Good morning y'all 11.6 waking with a peak of 15 whilst asleep, grrrrr but down to 8.8 15 minutes after injection so no worries, looks all grey and miserable outside as its been raining during the night, I'm aching a bit from yesterdays swim but that'll be the higher overnight sugar

Onwards and upwards but not my blood sugar
