Type 1'stars R Us

Good morning everyone, work later, but friend is popping round for a cuppa about lunchtime, which will be nice. I am expecting a phone call from GP today regarding some tablets I take, because Boots pharmacy told me there is a manufacturing problems getting them and I should ask for an alternative (I asked if she would write it down and she stamped it too so I handed it in to my surgery) it's called Ropinirole, for Restless Leg Syndrome, I take them in the afternoon and before bed.

Morning all...

Deeply suspicious that last night's basal in the bum approach didn't actually get any insulin into me at all. (Seems I need to be lying down for this to work best.) Or Madame DP took advantage of my half an hour lie in. Honestly, she's a right opportunist given the slightest whiff of a chance.

However, I don't want a repeat of yesterday morning's over-adjust which ended by going hypo at 9.00 a.m. That was.... inconvenient. Especially as I was going to drive. Oh well, I drove home instead.

Tuesday's drama was a new one... I am outraged that my hospital issued Glucomen Meter has batteries which are not the standard 2032 ones, but 2450 ones instead. I had a Battery Low signal 120 miles away from home, in a place I hardly know and had to try 8 shops before I could find 2450 batteries. Still getting Battery Low even with new batteries. When I got home, several hours later and on a wing and a prayer or twenty, read the meter manual to discover I need not have panicked and now the Battery Low has gone away having put the old batteries back in. So, I do now have new spares just not the way I'd liked to have acquired them.

Lessons learned - register the meter and check any new meter batteries as soon as new meter is issued, carry spares, (which I thought I was doing as I have two spare 2032s in the meds bag as that's what my GP issued meter and my self-funded meter both have!) and don't give up the spare meters even if pressure is applied to do so. (Mind you, if I go back to GP care after January's clinic appointment, which is highly likely, I've already decided I'm going to say I'd like to use my GP issued meter for blood sugars, and just keep the hospital issued one for ketones and BS emergencies. GP and I are both keen I have everything I need, but if we can keep costs down in the process )

Conclusions drawn - my ability to prepare for any possible scenario and deal with any crisis was already renowned. Now it's world class and I probably should just run the world.

Hi di Campers.

Guy Fawkes? well you know what they say "the only person to ever walk into parliament with true intention"

So hypos all round last night? Are we now getting to a point because we spend so much time on the forum in each others virtual company that we are all syncing up?

I was hypo to last night sat in my chair upstairs watching a film called Priest (which was bobbins first time round, more bobbins the parts I watched second time and complete and utter bobbins last night) and xDrip said a steady 5.0 all night but Libre and bloods said 2.4 ~sigh~ anyway Jaffa Cakes (the food of the Gods) to the rescue plus last night tea hitting somewhere around 1-2am I woke with a 11.7 butt monkeys.

Happy Thursday

Has Hotel Chocolat stopped making their low sugar buttons?

Has Hotel Chocolat stopped making their low sugar buttons?

No idea but did pick up a bottle of their Chocolate Liquor which may or may not last till that gravitationally challenged bloke in the red suite gets stuck in the central heating exhaust port.

You should write an alternative urban dictionary @Knikki Some brilliant words

@Japes, if you need to get a bit more life out of a battery try warming it up on a radiator/ car air vent with the heat turned up, if the battery's just going flat it's a temporary cure

If you did it yesterday and the day before then sooner or later it wont work

Thanks @helensaramay and @kev-w That's helpful info from both of you, as I'd forgotten about the warm up the batteries trick in an emergency.

I had wondered about the cold generally as I'd definitely gone North, done two or three hours walking around the appointment I'd gone for, and when I bought a coffee at Preston station on the way South again, there was a comment from the person who served me about how cold my coins were.

My other two meters seem hardier as I had no problems last winter at all with those meters refusing to work in the cold, but then I didn't have the Glucomen meter then, nor did I carry my Japes Meds Bag as I wasn't on insulin until February and the meters lived either in my backpack which is better insulated, or my walking coat inner pocket. My house is currently warmer than usual as my house guest feels the cold in a way I don't so the batteries probably warmed up once I was home.

Aye meters don't like the cold, winter window cleaning used to see mine with the temp warning icon showing and sometimes not working, and that was when I could get blood out of a finger , for me this winter's going to be interesting seeing how the Libre copes....

Morning all, no syncing with hypos here, I’m afraid. I was always one to go my own way. High alarm went off at 2am and I woke up to realise I’d left my Omnipod controller downstairs. Ugh. Tried rolling over and not caring but after ten minutes had to get up to sort it. 4.9 now and chugging coffee.

Felt a bit unwell and very cold last evening, even though sugars were good - very proud of myself for guessing the carbs and dosing bang on for my Mexican tapas lunch - was steady all afternoon despite the salad tasting quite sweet and breadcrumbs. I’d been expecting a massive spike. Evening weirdness was sorted by some protein, so I guess I just needed to eat.

Driving back to South Wales from the Wirral after taking some photos etc of a Triumph Bonneville belonging to a friend of my stepdad’s who is terminally ill and wants to sell it. Going to stock up on sugar free sweet chilli sauce at their locals Asda too, because mine doesn’t do it.

@kev-w - definitely be interesting to see how Libre copes with the cold, mine gets quite twitchy when I have a hot bath. But as I wear it on my chest, maybe it’ll be less of a thing to worry about?

Has Hotel Chocolat stopped making their low sugar buttons?
Nope, I bought two bags of them yesterday!

I also went trick or treating last night (with the kids obviously!), and also went low - must have been all the excitement and scary goings on...........but I'm now fully stocked with hypo treatments

But had a good night on the BG front:

A grey and overcast sky certainly isn't doing anything for my soul or encouraging me to get out there and plant the 74 bulbs but................. It's November now so it must be done. Bending and digging might not help my aches caused by slipping on an apple the other day but it's likely to be the only form of exercise I'll get today. I'm beginning to get a belly and putting on weight so need to get wriggling and jiggling. Wish I could hula hoop!
5.9 this morning

Good morning all.
Yep Haloween was definitely Hypo-een. Had my tea and went bowling and half way through my second game I couldnt see the arrows on the lane! My alarm was going off on my Pebble And I was at 2.9. Finger pricked and 2.5. DOH! Jelly babies to the rescue. Needless to say my 3 games were probably the 3 worst I have bowled this year

Good news now....woke up to a 5.5 this morning

I hate to say it but am glad to see I am not the only one who feels like a yo yo at the moment, I have been up and down from hypo to hyper for the past couple of days, yesterday had 3 hypos, today had a low carb brekkie and still at 12.3 after waking at 3.9 this morning, it's getting a little tedious now..

Tedious is the name of the game! I don’t think my heart’s really in all the blood tests and notes for the bs appointment - just read through them and there are clear signs of disengagement when I scribble down N (novosnail), L (Levitate or sink) and C (carb).

Afternoon all- bit of a hectic week. Finally found a moment to sit down and catch up on the forum but libre is telling me I am 4.3 and trending down

Better find a hypo snack before I head into work.

I was just heading low and then someone walks in the office with a tub of Quality sweets, bag goes my nice (just about) in-target day..........

I normally post first thing but I've been soooo busy with work and reindeer I'm here now.....
8.1 at 5.30 am (too much to eat last night) down to 5.8 by 8 am then steady till lunchtime where I've just eaten 4 bacon sandwiches and a mug of tea......crikey they were heavenly....took 5 units of novo and I'm back at my desk feeling rather thirsty which on a Thursday makes me titter a bit.......

I'm either high or its the bacon?????

Either way I need another brew......

Tally ho
