I find this an interesting equation too. Though the study of it is difficult, as the supply of greenish bananas in my local Tesco's is variable. Sometimes they are all very dark green, sometimes all yellow.
Also, the green banana bought yesterday, may be yellow in the morning.
I switched from Lantus to Levemir about a month ago. I like it a lot better, but I've been finding I need a slightly higher evening dose, than morning dose. I recently pushed it up to 8 at night, and 6 morning. It seems to be less erratic at that level, though it did feed into the morning sugars making them a bit lower. So I've had to use banana power to go out and get stuff done. Whereas before it would be a comfortable high 7s, or low 8 that I could walk off easily.
I'm not a fan of basal tests, as to me it's only a snapshot, but I based my guesstimate on the daily patterns freestyle libre graph, because the night time section was clearly higher.
I am definitely waking up higher than my bedtime reading. I was putting it down to being ill- so will see if it settles before I increase my evening dose. I suffered from 2-3 hypos most nights/evenings with Lantus. The Levemir has been much more stable.
I need to pay more attention to the patterns on my libre
Yep Flexibility is key !! And in theory a banana in the tummy is like ballast, it might keep you from rolling too much side to side as you swim., more efficient. 'Nuff said.!!! naval architecture is not my forte.Your input is super valuable @kitedoc but sometimes the banana is just the easiest option, because changing levemir or bolus dosage can have an impact further down the line, a few hours later, whereas a banana has less impact.
Goodluck for tomorrowWell another weekend draws to a close. It's been as good as it could be. Running around 12 all afternoon, no idea why, nothing untowards but the correction seems to be kicking in, albeit at novoslow pace.
Big check up day tomorrow. See where I'm at.on the HbA1C front.
Half day at work tomorrow, so every cloud has a silver lining
Take care all.
A real tease !! Maybe it is an early warning signal that our bodies are losing out on available glucose (? starvation) but our liver is blocked from releasing or making glucose as a remedy until we reach the 14 mmol/l mark ??? I wonder whether those on low carb or other diets experience the false hypo thing as much ??@kitedoc . Good morning ( 5 a.m. here ).
You are definitely not alone with the false hypo thing.
I get it quite often, usually at work. I'll be busy doing something when suddenly realise I feel that very empty inside sensation along with that sudden need for carbs. All the little markers for going low seem to appear. Check my BS and ****, I'm sitting around 9 or 10. Most annoying aspect is that for a brief few minutes I'm looking forward to a little, unplanned snack.
Have a good day.
