I am not new to type 2 diabetes its about 8 years now but and new to excercise.
This year I have really kept to my healthy eating plan and have lost 34 lbs. (stll need to lose 3 stone) I have also bought a bike and starting out on that, need stabilisers get the picture.
My problem I have also started the couch to 5k plan I have just finished week 6 run 3 today which meant I jogged (very slowly) for 25minutes. It has amazed me as in January I tried to run and nearly collapsed at 20 seconds.
My problem comes with how I feel afterwards not straight away as I am jubilant but after about 30 minutes I start to feel really drained and as if I have no energy at all. My sugars dont run particulally high on my eating plan but they are down to 4.2/4.8 after a run. I drink plenty and eat before I excercise but today I ran at 1pm and at 5pm peeling two oranges nearly wiped me out. At that time it was 4.8.
Any suggestions I take one tab of metformin 500mg.
Thanks in advance
Glenda

Hi, Well done on the weight loss and the exercise. The exercising will affect your bg levels as your muscles are using the sugar more effectively. Do you check your bg before and after exercise? It could be that you need a few more carbs beforehand to make up for what you are using.

Keep up the good work (I actually bought a pair of size 16 trousers today down from 22 yay!!!!!)

Oh thanks for that I do try and keep my carbs down not low carbing in anyway but I think before I eat complex carbs only I seem ok with potatoes at dinner. You have done really well with your weight well done mine are 16 now too was a 20 so feeling much better than I was.

I don't run: the stroke seems to have ruined my "recoil" springs, but I do loads of exercise. Much of it in a swimming pool and Ido it on VLC. I don't find myself particularly tired and recover quickly. I think many people adapted to VLC find the same.

I don't run either, but I walk a lot (10.19 miles so far today). I also do Zumba, step and intensive workouts. I've come down from a size 22-24 to a size 10. I probably eat reduced carbs rather low carb and I don't feel tired after exercise, but I do limp if I walk over 5 miles at once because of post-stroke issues.
