Hello All,

I am new to this site and this is my 1st post.

I have been diabetic for around 5 years, not had any issues, related to it, as am in perfect health.

I have low carbed (as best as I can) and kept my HBa1C between 5.6 and 6.3% (last Hba1C result was6.3%)

My last total col was 7.2, HDL 1.48, LDL 4.9, Trig 1.8.

Not bad, but not perfect according to my doctor, I have never take any medication, metformin, BP meds, nothing at all.

But in the last 3 months, i have been struggling a lot with UTI's and having man trouble (in that department).

My GP is not helpfull at all, any ideas what I can do.

I am not overweight in anyway etc..

I have asked for my bloods to be done again, with a eGRF (kidneys) and C-Pep test (to check pan function), along with HBa1C and other standard ones, but he has refused, as they where done around 5months ago, so there is no need to do them every 6months now.

I just need some help and advise and I have had enough at the moment and this constant UTI is getting me down.

Thank you in advance,
Lee.

P.S - I need to get some test strips, as I have not tested my BS (blood sugars) for a long time, so see whats going on there, but as I low carb, 100% of the time, I should not be getting any spikes, so therefore HBa1c should be OK.. Any Ideas?

Hi. If you are getting UTIs with normal blood sugar it may be worth checking whether you have any urine retention. It was discovered I had severe retention recently and had a prostate op to resolve it but the consultant was surprised I hadn't had a UTI

Hi,
And welcome!

It may not be diabetes connected, as @Daibell says, which means you get to keep nagging your doc till they take you seriously.

Has the doc been handing out antibiotics like sweets, or have they tested to see what the infection is, and given you a targeted anitbiotic?

Hello,
Thank you all for your replies.

I am going to ask for a referral, as it clears with antibiotic then around a week later it comes back, which is getting on my nerves.

Will have to look in eBay or something for some test strips.

Just kind of getting me down.

Kind regards
Lee.

@Lee1988 Can't you get a prescription for test strips? If not, then by all means buy some off ebay. I did and they seemed to work ok. However, there won't be much temperature control when they are shipped, so that might damage them and you might not know they are not working properly. Just, out of curiosity, how low carb are you? I do less than 50 g per day and it seems to keep my BG in check.

Well hope u are all well.

Result of urine test shows I have an infection, so the hospital have told GP best antibiotics to give me, so we shall see how I get on, if it comes back I may well just ask to be referred.

But I am going to see the nurse as I would like all my 10 or 9 diabetic test to be done, just so that I have a little pease of mind.

Carbs wise, I am on around 50 to 70 in any given day, so it's not extreme low carb, but I may well now try and aim for the 50 mark.

Kind regards
Lee.
