Type 2 and heart disease

I've had type 2 for 5 years (found out when I had a triple bypass), my problem is diet, I would like to follow the low cal diet but not sure if it would be good for my heart, I asked my health care and nurse she wasn't too happy about it.
Any advice.

Well there's the conundrum. Most of the posters on here are not doctors and can't really give you medical advice.

The accepted wisdom of this forum seems to be that high carb diets will cause high blood sugar and this could damage your organs.

Low carb diets will give you some control over your blood sugar levels but the fact that you have had a by-pass suggests that you have problems other than blood sugar.

I think you might have to ask your doctor.

Hi everyone, it has been a long time since I tried to join this community, I am type 2 and my average readings are between 7 - 9 on my suger levels. My Meds are Metformin 1g twice a day, Byetta injection [Excenatide] 10mcls twice daily, both with meals. Glimepiride 4mg 1 x daily. for my diabetes which was diagnosed after having a Quadruple Bypass Aug 2009.
I have lost most of my faith in the Medical Circles because it seems that they are very 'Lacksidaisy' with observations and knowledge. I seem to gain more knowledge from people who suffer the same illness and this site. Thank you for all of the information.p.s. right or wrong, when my levels go into double figures I tend to flush myself out with a few drinks of boiling water, it it good because it works for me!!!...

you might find it useful to know that Robert Atkins devised his low carb diet for his cardiac patients. Read a bit more about him and his diet and you'll be better equipped to make a decision.
