Basically as the thread title says!
I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2011 when I was at university. It wasn't something I wanted to deal with, especially since all my friends were out drinking and eating whatever they wanted. A late night Indian or McDonalds was a really regular thing.
I was prescribed 2000mg of metformin, I have been taking that fairly regularly, though if I'm honest only because I've discovered that it appears to control my acne. I think part of the problem is that I have no other symptoms, which has made this whole thing even easier to ignore.
I've suddenly started to freak myself out with everything that can possibly go wrong now so I know I need to wake up and get this thing under control. I've been back to the doctors, and my HbAC1 level was 54. He basically told me that I needed to loose weight, start eating properly and then come back in three months.
I've spent the afternoon reading a lot of stuff on the internet, and it basically appears that to control my blood sugar I have to give up everything I like. I'm trying to meal plan low carb meals and I'm coming up with nothing. I have quite a big appetite and am used to eating fairly big meals, usually with chips, boiled or mashed potatoes. I also eat out a lot, it's a big part of my social life, as is the occasional mad night out. I suppose basically I'm asking do I have to give all that up? I know I've been incredibly stupid and I'm scared of how much damage I may have already done to myself, but I really don't know where to go from here?
I'm really sorry about the length of this.......think I've overdone the research today!
