Hi all
I have just been diagnosed with diabetes, my fasting blood was 13.
I bought myself a meter to test myself.
I have been given metaformin 500 to be taken 1 tablet twice a day for first week, and my level was between 18-23 whenever ~I tested it.
I am now on my second week and have gone to 2 tablets twice a day and my level is between 13-19, on Thursday i have to go up to 3 tablets twice a day.
I dont get to see the diabetes nurse until the 9th for my first appointment, I am trying to get a bit of advice as the doc just said you have diabetes, take these tablets and see the nurse.
The thing im trying to find out is what is best to drink.
I dont drink any hot drinks at all. I usualy drink Robinsons special R.
Is that ok or is there something better apart from water (yuk)
Thanks all

Hi Vicki65.
Welcome to the forum. Have a good look around and if you have any questions, just fire away.

The Robinson's drink seems fine to me.

Hi Vicki and welcome to the forum. That's a pretty good reduction in just a couple of weeks if you are only on metformin. Have you been helping your blood sugar levels by a change in diet as well?

Couldn't agree more. As W C Fields once said
"Me . . . drink water? You must be mad . . . have you seen what fish DO in it?"

Yes I have had a drastic change in diet this last few weeks, out went all the choccy , cakes and sweets.

Hi Vicki65,

I'm a Type 2 also diagnosed nine years ago. I'd recommend that you cut back on starch carbohydrates too - e.g. cereal, bread, potatoes, rice and past etc.

Best wishes - John
