type 2 and sugar control

thanks Luna21

yes I have a freezer but right now its survival as no carer coming in to work so make what I need for now and eat then worry about energy to clear up and so on

but in time once I work out what is ok to eat for me and what isnt then will work on making batches and freezing

cant do rice pasta bread or potatoes so not even a little good

just good old meat fish cheese nuts seeds most veg and some fruit :)

most my meals tend to be like today

breakfast 2 eggs and 3 lrg mushrooms
lunch lots of smoked haddock, 1 carrot and 2 sticks of celery
dinner not sure yet as delivery came today so possibly steak and some more celery and carrots

most my veg I eat raw to cut down on cooking need and its better for you I believe so cooking time is meat or fish length

although love curry and bolognase so def get them in freezer for really bad days

am avoiding snacking now just the meals although :o might invest in some almond milk and have a cup of that with cocoa powder with coconut oil I am unsure yet just mulling idea over

thanks again

One step at a time is the way I will win this  this disease is going down  all the way

Vicky you are doing so well I just have to congratulate you:-) I live on a low budget &if you can get Tesco then try the site.. my supermarket.com when u can do your next one online.. It shows you what's cheaper so giving you a chance to swap it & helps you more with knowing how good it is too. I save a lot using it myself. 2 years ago I could hardly walk & I have been fortunate to bring my health back to a better footing. I suffer pain daily too even now & also have breathing & heart rate issues so I know where you're coming from. I learnt that the oily fish, almonds & walnuts are good food for bringing you out of the slump moods when suffering in pain etc.. I tried it thinking no chance! It helped me:-) My child now offers me nuts if she thinks I'm getting grumpy;-) Or suggests my favourite of pilchards to me;-) I eat porridge every morning or weetabix then for lunch I have a cuppa soup or a mug shot & dinner a bit of meat & normally raw salad veg etc an egg is normally added & the yoke is my dressing. It is easier:-) Green tea is great too. you can get it flavoured;-) also then keeping with that on my hungrier days I can have extra food if I feel the need & do.. Mini chedders seem to be good. I may put a little potato too & if I have cheese I melt it on & that moistens it enough without margarine.. I changed my milk to red top too & my sugar went to Splenda granulated.. I use an app called fitness pal on my phone.. you set what calories you want to burn each day & the rate of weight that you would like to lose.. It shows you exactly what you are eating sugar vitamins fat etc.. You see exactly where you are going wrong with food.. You can scan the barcode & it tells you what's in your food:-) You can then decide to change it for something else:-) I set myself another rule.. I keep moving.. I take my pain killers as prescribed not just when feeling pain! It helps build up a stronger pain barrier that you feel less in the long run & my 2nd rule keep moving until it is starting to be too much. Anything that i can do by getting up & moving no matter how small.. Then I'll sit down. If it's bad all the time, as was for me where I couldn't walk.. I got a circulation booster called a health instrument.. It's in pharmacy's for £200 odd but I saved for a long long time but got it on eBay for£70 though last I saw it was down to £50 with tummy belt & a tens machine attached.. It is the best thing:-) It helps until you have more freedom to move more freely. The other thing I do is make sure I get enough sleep for me what I need.. I know after 6hrs I will feel ill the next day so I target for no more than that unless my body is needing it from bad nights! I am on my way to losing almost a stone too:-) here's to losing those last lb's & the next stone:-)
I am a single Mum & on benefits I scrape the barrel all the time & I got myself into a bit of debt too.. I went to the old consumer credits now called step change & the relief I feel knowing I don't need to worry about the bailiffs anymore:-) I'm not stereotypical person claiming with lots of kids, I have one child, I get no maintenance, I pay tax & do volunteer work.. So only benefit money coming in.. It's hard & tough. I know I live it for each day myself & my child. My heart goes out to you too Here's a hug we all need one from time to time. I'm not saying you have to do this. This worked for me & by sharing my story If I could help just one person then it's worth doing:-) Take care

Hi Scorpian.
Am I right in understanding that certain antibiotics send your blood sugars up?! I'm on antibiotics now for an infected toe! I don't think that it is too bad for me but I'm not able to test.. I know only by if I feel ill! This is worrying that you are going through that because of it. I do hope you feel better soon & the professionals get it right for you soon too, Take care

thanks Lozzybabyw

totally hear you

I am in pain constantly and no pain killer helps my joints sublax (slightly dislocate) and it can be on any movement I could move a certain way today and not have a problem this morning yet do same thing later and have a problem the unpredicatability of it is the problem more than the condition

I am learning three meals a day and happy today to see my morning BG down even if ever so slightly  I know it can be the machine but I will take a positive from wherever I can

Keep doing what you are doing

I cant have that app I dont have a modern enough phone am considering upgrade in summer when this contract expires and change providers maybe but then potentially extra cost my phone is only £10-15 a month but it will be thoroughly investigated

as for food am trying out lots of things then will hit the lowest cost price meals for 5 outta 7 days and a couple of days with moderate cost meals even if both the same so food be a little more expensive this month as I trial and error and will buy some strips if I need to myself to get this right

thanks for the encouragement appreciate it

Antibiotics DO raise my sugars, i had a failed root canal and the pain comes back periodically.
Vicky, for painful joints have you tried flax? Sorted my knee out. I combine it with fenugreek and for about a month now my sugars ( and pain) appear to have normalized.:-)

I'm looking for something that you can get on the net without a phone... There must be something.. The other thing I did for my pain is medical tai chi... You learn the breathing techniques of tai chi & I was surprised how good it is... I got to do that through a pain clinic who referred me... There might be something near you too. The one I went to was for people who suffered chronic pain for whatever reason even if you was in a wheelchair. It helped:-)

Flaxseed is packed with omega oils, great for diabetics and you're joints.
You can get it milled or in an oil capsule form.
Fenugreek and diabetes, give it a google and you'll see the benefits, i take quarter teaspoon twice daily.:)

thanks will look into fenugreek have already got flax seeds in just grinder has died a death :-(

well sadly nearest service like that to me is 30 miles away (pain management etc) and I have to weigh up cost of getting to it I already pay 20 to get to a weight management program as am almost 27 stone  so fought to get that for six years

In the county I live in very little available so have to fight pct to pay for next county which is always slow hard slog Doubt they will fund anything else whilst am on this course which last two years :(

will keep fighting tho for things I know will be worth while

My Mum had similar problems Vicky she firstly got the DLA to help, the doctor too & got her medical travel help.. Cab or special pick up for any medical appointments that she had. She has now got luckier & has just got a mobility car to help her.. She has recently met someone & he drives so is getting out more than was. I made many a call to help her get the help to her appointments & I wasn't taking no for an answer.. She got the help needed. Might be worth a shot. x

thanks sweetie

right now with limited carer due to bus diversion from landslide I am barely coping with making meals and clearing up and personal care

no spare energy to take on the fight and with a budget of £26 a week cant afford extra travel (I have dla already and that already goes on mobility and care respectively) just getting to drs appt cost £15 so have to be careful

right now if I can conquer diabetes from diet control I will be happier :D

Aww I'm sorry to hear of your troubles Vicky.my thoughts are with you. I'm sorry if my answers have been of annoyance with your situation. I didn't know of the landslide:-( If you feel like a chat any time feel free just to message me:-) I am always thinking on the positive &always will be one to look for the answers to help too. That's all just me;-) If I can't be of help, I still hope you find yourself through& achieve all you wish for too& get your diet under control. I wish you the best in that:-) x

Thank you Vicky that's good to hear:-) I am terrible at always trying to find answers for everything. I have been through many bad situations in life & therefore it comes natural to try to help. I felt maybe I could have made it worse by saying stuff that wasn't useful.. Don't like the idea of upsetting anyone ever.. I hope your carer does help immensely. I'm not religious but I put faith in other things& will do for you too:-) You're a fighter by the sounds of it& that as you probably know can get you through anything:-) Fingers crossed for tomorrow... today;-) x

thanks lozzybearw

similar been through the mill so am use to fighting and yes sometimes I get tired of the good ole fight but usually I keep at it

always say what you would find helpful if it was you as you never know other person may not have thought of it and may need to hear it

as for upsetting people you cant upset someone unless they let you (a friend once told me no one can make you feel anything unless you let them) and in truth only time it hits hard is if I am in a bad place so hearing it critically instead of hearing it as well meaning support and then I just re-read it and realise how it was intended :)

keep fighting too this life is a battle as a Christian I believe I am in a spiritual war so fighting is part of my faith (dont do religion lots of dos and dont in those ;-))

Hi Vicky,
So glad to read that you will carry on fighting your illnesses! Since reading your original post I have been doing a lot of reading about carbs. I can't pretend to know what are good for us, but we are better of eating less of them. I use a book called the "calorie, carb and fat bible" to get some information on foods that aren't labeled. I am discovering that there are carbs in almost everything we eat, but meat and eggs seems to be very low. I think if I was still a meat eater I would be concentrating on meals based around meat with veg, especially veg high in protein and low in carbs. I have been shocked to discover that bananas and grapes are just about the worst fruit for carbs. If you can get a copy of the book it might help you plan your meals. The book doesn't list the sugars in food just the carbs. But I suppose to us they are almost the same thing.
Lee

Hi Lee

yeah carbs = sugar in food thats what carbs break down into so almost identical

sounds like a good book

I am sticking mostly to meat and fish and cheese and eggs with some veggies added Have cut out bananas :-( and grapes already knew was high so rarely allow them in house as have no self control around them

today has been lots of protein and wow am stuffed at this moment dinner has just registered in body and brain (5 mins ago thought was still hungry) so now water for rest of evening and check bloods in two hours time

thanks for info

must be hard to low carb if vegetarian or vegan because of need for rice to complete protein from beans and pulses
