Hi

Im 32 and have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes which is controlled by diet and Metaformin. I manage by Blood sugar level threwout the day range from the lowest of 4 to the highest 7.5.
Myself and my husband are thinking of having a baby and was wondering if anyone can advise what this is should be looking to do before we go adhead.
I have read that you have to maintain your Blood sugar levels which i feel i do however there are other information that confuses me.
Could anyone advice what kind of things apart from maintaing levels and taking folic acid.
Im knew to this and hope this has been posted in the correct place. I am obviously going to see the doctor however was hoping i could start her.

Thanks for reading

Hope you can help.

thanks

Hi,
I am t2 as well, and we are hoping to have another baby soon. In fact I was diagnosed because I asked for pre conception blood tests.
My GP has given me a lot of support and I have nearly got my Bmi down to what is recommended. I will be starting on the high dose folic acid next month (it is recommended that we take higher doses) and I think they like to see hb1ac at a safe level first. I'm due to have mine done next month, fingers crossed.
Good luck. There is some NICE guidelines you could read, but I don't know how to do links on my trusty i-pod.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

I have an appointment for next week but as weve actually made the decision im really excited! but having read the diabetes magazine it kinda scared me but i think your right hopefully my Gp will give me all the advice i need. I did read about the Hb1ac levels and was worried, my blood sugar levels are normally ok however they can drop pretty low as low as going into hypo. Ive never actually got to that stage always manage to prevent one by eating chocolate. I also have coeliacs Disease which they do say you must take a higher level of folic acid which im assuming would be prescribed.
Well i wish you all the luck in the world.
And thanks again for your reply.

What was your last HB1AC? I'm hoping to be in the 6 's next time.
It is exciting so enjoy it and plan away!
We are lucky enough to have a specialist maternity team at the hospital nearest to me (i live in Oxford). Perhaps you could look into what's available in your area

Good luck again.
