This is my first post / question and I am looking for some advice from those of you with experience. Had upset tum at the weekend and din't feel like any food at all but know I have to eat. What do I choose to eat when feeling sick and running to the toilet all morning. I do my own home testing of levels and they were up and down abit but no panic numbers. Drinking peppermint tea today and avoiding milk things.Have been type 2 for 1 year now.

Fasting won't hurt you check out Dr Jason Fung.

One dry jacobs cracker settles me down after an attack. I nibble it. Normally I eat less than half but soaks up anything like my previously sipped water. I've had diabetes for decades but only had this kind of problem when bgs were high. Have you checked for ketones? Anything over 13.3mmol/l can be a sign too.
When you say no panic numbers, what numbers were you reaching?

Hi @lyn21 , and welcome to the forums.

Are your episodes in any way related to the use of Metformin?

The medications you are on can greatly influence how you would deal with a stomach flu and metformin can definitely cause stomach upset particularly in the first week or two. If you are not on any medications then I wouldn't worry too much about it and just eat when you feel ready to. If you are on meds then you could call your doctor or nurse and ask what to do.

Thanks for your replies. Yes I am on Metformin and have been for 1 year. Also simvistatin for high cholestrol. Hoping it was just a bug as I feel back to normal today. Was afraid if I didn't eat something I would go too low and feel bad. Going to see my diabetic nurse for a chat next week so will see what she says. If there is any helpful I will post it.

A lot of people struggle with Metformin and stomach upsets.

There is a slow release version, Metformin SR that some find beneficial but a few people cannot cope even with the SR version.

You could try SR if you're not already using but maybe your DN or GP could give you an alternative.
