Hi all, my name is Kim, this is my first time at posting, although I am always on here reading your questions and answers, and wanted to know if any of you had the same issues as me?? I have been type 2 for approx. 10 years now, have just turned 42 (last week) Over the last year and a half I have lost 6 stone following the slimming world diet. I have previously been on 5 insulin injections a day (Novarapid and victoza) and metformin tablets. However since loosing the 6 stone I have reduced my medication and am only on 3 metformin tabs a day (hoping to reduce those at my next check in sessions at my GPs). However, I have always been on the bigger side and since loosing weight everyone tells me how good and slimmer I look but I can t see it at all. I still pick up clothing in the size that I was before loosing the weight... I just don't see what other people see!!! This is really getting me down and it is making me ignore the fact that I have done so well and have achieved what I set out to achieve and that was to stop with the 5 injections every day... they were so painful ;-(. I know the health benefits far outweigh what I look like but I just want it all to make sense in my head.

Does this make sense to anybody or do I just need psychological help lol

Thanks

Kim x

Hi Kim, welcome to the forum.
Being overweight is quite complex. To become 'big', you have to ignore the increased weight, clothes not fitting, going up dress sizes, choosing clothes more carefully to look good and accepting how you look.
Losing weight is exactly the same. Being overweight might make you feel better as you think you become invisible, less attention etc. Takes time to accept a lower weight. Take photos, (something you may have avoided looking at when overweight), try a different , more fitted style of clothes, choose different colour clothing, listen to other people. Our body is 'us' and it takes time to adjust when it changes dramatically.
Medication is another thing If you have got used to the doctor telling you diabetes is progressive and medication is the only way, even reducing medication seems wrong.
Don't put the weight back on, take time to adjust to your new self. In fact, it is you, the way you should be.

Hi Mushroom, thanks so much for your reply. It certainly makes sense what you have said, and I ave recently had a few photos taken and done 'before and after' clips of them and only then can I see any difference in the way I look (see my profile pic). I know it took a long time to put the weight on so my mind got used it it slowly, so I suppose it will just have to reprogramme itself to the 'new me'

I think you are awesome! I was going to suggest a photo but someone beat me to it. I am a 16-18 so vary. The photo is cold hard proof. Keep it up! We all need someone to aspire to! :)

fiirst off Hun you look amazing. I was following the slimming world diet prior to diagnosis and have lost nearly 3 stone x however since diagnosis I have cut the carbs out, so still following it . I am not really eating at the moment as I have lost my taste a few weeks ago and I just have no appetite. I am new to the world of diabetic and to say I am struggling with that and my other conditions ( I am disabled ) and deaf , trust me if I looked that good I would shout it from the rooftops my love.

Thank you hun, that is really sweet of you to say. I was a size 22-24 and am now a size 14... loving buying clothing in the new size but still go for the plus size clothing on the rails... its my hubby that has to 'remind' me that I am not that size anymore lol x

Hi Sharon Anne, you have done fantastically losing that much weight, I can only assume its so much harder to do that when you have other disabilities to contend with too? I have been following Slimming world from home (don't go to class) just bought the books off ebay and managed to lose the weight, so am proud of that. I have got the picture of me in the black dress as my screen saver on my phone so that it gives me inspiration every time I look at the phone - its a good visual reminder for me lol x

thank you Hun x yes it is hard work I have no real use of my legs they don't work after so many fractures I have brittle bones . It has never stopped me having a good life and I lip read and use some BSL. I do walk but I use crutches on both arms to support me so it is really hard going . I try to use my chair as little as possible. To be honest it's the diabetes and blurry vision that keeps coming and going and being so worried about my numbers that is the most stressful .
