Hi I was diag with type 2 when i was 27 years old. The A1c was 13.5 and fasting blood sugar of 355. I was put onto metformin 1000mg morning and 1000mg at night. Then it fluctuated between 130 and 150. I wasnt terrified because I didnt bother to read about its complications. After a year, now, i realized my ignorance. Last 3 weeks I started exercising and watching what I eat then the fasting blood sugar went to 98. I started feeling happy. I am obese. About 30 kgs overweight. Now lost around 3 kgs and started feeling better. But I am depressed. I am very young compared to people getting type 2 diabetes. I blame myself all the time. My family is very supportive but still when I am alone no minute passes without I thinking about it. After reading an article in diabetes.co.uk i felt more depressed. The article talks about life expectancy of type 2 patients are developed at young age are reduced. If I take good care of myself like controlling my blood sugar and loose all my excess weight (targeting athletic fitness), will I be able to head a healthy life like a normal person? Please help I am doing by best to take care of myself by exercise and diet but these thoughts are driving me crazy. Please help me.

Just missed to add a point. Will my life expectance reduce if i take good care of myself in the way me mentioned above?

The more you look after your weight, and therefore hand in hand heart etc the more chance of living longer.. Unless you walk under a bus....

At your age, think positive.. You have a great opportunity to improve your life a d be an example of good learing and educatio to others who are less willing to improve and just want to rely on meds.

You have been given a great opportunity to improve your life... Grab with both hands and prove you can do it.

Unhealthy living is due to media. Too much money_or not enough, or way brought up, bad nutition advice etc, etc. beat the odds here mate.. Prove every body wrong...

Grab this chance to be positive, learn and live life to the full. D is more manageable than big C And at 27 you have a great life to look forward to...

Sorry, I meant OP had posted the same message in two places. I think he wanted to make sure someone would see it. I had just responded to his other post. I'm sure he will acknowledge yours.

Depression is VERY common in Type 2 diabetes, my A1c levels were initially 12.5% and have never went below 10% and I wouldn't exactly say I'm that overweight either. Sometimes it's the luck of the draw and can be hereditary too so don't be too hard on yourself too. Making good lifestyle choices will improve your health and lifespan, bit of weight loss, exercise, good healthy meals and monitoring your blood pressure will help greatly. A1c levels so high made me feel very tired, fatigued and in that state it is hard to motivate yourself to do anything constructive but since being on insulin I've felt miles better so have faith and try making small changes, one thing at a time and scale up. All the best and good luck mate !
