Type 2 blood sugar management

I'm posting this here because my experience may be of help to others who suffered as I did when initially diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and were prescribed an insulin management regime of one dose in the morning and one dose at bedtime. I struggled to get my blood sugar readings to remain low and consistent. Even though we eat a mediterranean diet, modified to reduce carbs, some mornings (fasting) they were between 8 and 10 and some bedtime readings were between 8 and 12. Crazy. So, I adopted a regime of one dose of insulin before breakfast, of 20 units, one dose before lunch of 10 units, one dose before supper of 10 units and one dose of 10 units before bed. My readings are now between 5 and 7.5 mmol/l in the morning and between 6.5 and 8 before bed. I feel a lot better too. This is just my experience. Your mileage may vary.

That sounds great and you seem to know what you are doing !

Have you ever had your endogenous insulin production measured?
C-peptide or fasting insulin test?

This reminds me of when I went for two weeks on an Iport and gave myself 5units of insulin every hour to replicate a pump.
My insulin became stable but the IPort was too expensive and I couldn’t afford to self fund that and the Libre.

No and no.

No and no.

Might be worth asking?

If you are an overproducer of insulin then long term shoving more in won't be very helpful or healthy..

If I were overproducing insulin, why would I need regular doses of Humulin? My insulin production is very low.

Without C-Peptide testing you won't know whether your insulin production is high or low. If you are slim then it may be low as you may not have much insulin resistance. If you have excess weight you may well be insulin resistant and you may already have some insulin in the body which can't be easily used. BTW with 4 or so injections of mixed insulin you might be even better with the Basal/Bolus regime?
