I have had type 2 diabetes now for 12 years. I am just controlling my readings with slightly over readings more than common. I have porridge every morning, with a pinch salt and semi skinned milk. But I just love bread will the 10 LOW CARB BREADS recipies help me get my readings to be better. I drink alcohol occasionally, preferring coffee.

Hello and welcome,

Do you use your meter to test before and after meals? What are the readings before and 2 hours after starting your porridge? A few people can mange small amounts (not with skimmed milk however) but most people find it raises their levels too much.

As for bread .... I don't know which 10 low carb bread recipes you are referring to. Someone else may help with that. Personally I eat Lidl high protein rolls, toasted with lots of butter. There are about 8g carbs in a roll which is a lot less than other low carb breads and you get more of it.

Type 1 here who used to eat about 5 slices of bread a day before I was diagnosed. I had to change my diet and cut out all the bread I used to previously eat, but I have found that I can still eat bread sometimes without going too high. Low carb bread is especially good, but try and look for low GI also because it can help minimise spikes after eating.
