Hi all my name is neil i was diagnosed with type 2 2 years ago I had all the usual tests and they came back positive so was chucked on metformin 500mg 2 a day be on them since made sure I exercised ate right then just before Christmas 2016 I became Ill with syptoms of neraphethy a feeling of something stuck in the throat mouth and tongue constantly dry even though I down plenty of water I have had the diabetic review tests and all came back fine kidney function test liver test all the usual with the diabetes hba1c was fine it was so good the doctor told me it was back in the pre diabetic state but I'm still getting these symptoms to this day has anyone else had this problem

Hi and Welcome - @Arsenal79 - Neil take a look and read the information leaflet in the box of Metformin. If nothing stated as a side effect maybe go back to see the Diabetes Nurse?

About 20% of prediabetics do experience diabetic complications such as neuropathy. I know you say your numbers are fine but what are they?
Were you also checked for vitamin deficiencies also?

Tagging @daisy1 for some useful info for new members

As @Alison Campbell has mentioned, have you had vitamins checked. In particular, Vit B12 can be low/deficient due to taking Metformin. Also, Vit D3 could be low. The other vits to particularly check with Vit B12 is Folate and Ferratin as they work together.

It might be worthwhile checking out Vit B12 defiency as that can be the cause of neuropathy. Unfortunately, doctors seem to be rather unaware of these implications and effects so you might find you need to 'educate' your doctor ;)

Hi liam 1965 and alison cambell Hba1c was 42 and yes I was tested for vitamin d deficiency I'm on meds for that has well and thanks for the reply

As @Energize find out if you were checked for deficiancy in b12 and with a little effort try and get your HBA1C down further to below 40 as this will lessen your risk of complications and may reduce your symptoms.
Have a good read around the forum and ask loads of questions. Come back and see @daisy1 post tomorrow for new members which really helped me.
Do you have a meter to test blood sugar levels at home?

Thanks energize yes the vit b12 came back fine that was included in the tests yes I have a blood glucose meter thanks for replying

@Arsenal79 - Hi Neil, Your HBA1C of 42 puts you in the Prediabetic range.

HBA1C Ranges:
Normal. = Below 42mmol.
Predicates. = 42 to 47mmol.
Diabetes. = 48/mmol and over.

When the information is posted by daisy1 have a good read of it, and if you have any questions? Just ask - there are plenty of friendly and helpful people on here.
Liam1955 :)
