Can you have type 2 diabetes and be insulin dependant.

I am having a discussion with a friend of mine who says he is type 2 diabetic
but takes insulin.

I assumed he was type 1 he claims he is type 2 can this be clarified please

Many Type 2's have to take insulin to control their diabetes, it does not make them Type 1.

Type 1 is an autoimmune disease where the pancreas has been compromised in some way. Type 2 is generally where you have built up a resistance to insulin in some way and therefore cannot process glucose properly.

A type two can control their diabetes by different methods and also may still be producing their own natural insulin.

A Type 1, after an initial 'Honeymoon period' does not produce their own insulin or very, very little and must rely on injected insulin for the rest of their life.

I am t2 and taking insulin. Was on oral meds for it but got pancreatitis 18 months ago and as my pancreas is probably too damaged to produce insulin am now on injections.
