Nope... Insulin isn't a forgone conclusion at all. And your HbA1c isn't exactly dramatically bad.... Could use some improvement, but that could be done right-quick. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/ might help some.

All in all though... No reason for you to need insulin if you take care of yourself.
 
Not inevitable.
There are, I suspect, quite a number of people taking drugs for T2 when, with a modest change of lifestyle, they could come off medication alltogether.
I'm no expert but perhaps a small change here and there may be the ticket for you. I, for example was diagnosed with 51. I made some changes and my latest one was 42. And I'm pathetic and week-willed!

NO! Not necessarily, particularly if you watch your diet and can keep your carbohydrate consumption down. Your HbA1c is not all that bad as it's only just in diabetic range, and if you've kept it that low all the time, you must be doing something right.

I'm 78 and have been T2 since the end of 2013. Eating a low carb higher/normal fat diet reduced my HbA1c from 60-61 on diagnosis to prediabetic levels within a couple of months and it's remained between 40-43 (apart from some health type blips) since then. I was taking metformin for the first three years until my GP finally decided I didn't need it. And I'm still overweight and currently quite inactive, so I believe there's plenty of room for hope for you too!

1) If you follow the advice of your government and base your diet on glucose, fructose and seed oils, it's not unlikely.
2) If you follow the advice of people who have actually reversed/beaten/cured their type 2 diabetes, it's unlikely.

The only question you need to ask yourself is who are you going to listen to?
