Type 2 diagnosed last week

You can still have the scotch eggs just dont cover them in bread crumbs, they are so easy to make, I used to love them before I decided piggies didn't need to die to satiate my appetite.

Only have four test strips now. Found one site that charges £21 for 50. Is this an average price or should I get a different monitor that requires cheaper strips?

Received test strips and lancets from doctor. With strict written instructions that I only test twice a week for next four weeks. And that I will not get the prescription again without seeing the diabetes nurse (and begging my case I have no doubt) . Can anyone tell my why they tell me this? I would have thought testing before and 2 hours after meals would help me find out what I can or cannot eat

You're right, it will, but the doctors don't want to pay for them. So youi'll need to.
i would suggest it might be cheaper in the long run to ignore the meter they gave you, and buy the SD codefree on Amazon. The meter AND strips are cheaper than buying just strips for your machine. Replacement strips for the codefree are really cheap as well. Most lancets fit most machines, and you can buy boxes of 100 at the chemist very cheap. Just take one of your lancets to ensure it's the same. Most of us don't use a new lancet every time anyway - I've been known to use one for weeks.

Hi I have recently been diagnosed as having Diabetes type 2. My mam is same and has been for approx 12 years.

My sugar readings at present on my mams machine is between 9 - 13

I will be getting appt to go for retinotherapy test for my eyes, my eyes keep going blurred??

My thyroid bloods came back borderline so have to have bloods repeated in 12 weeks.

Diabetic Clinic will be in 2 weeks time, when diabetic sister is back from hols as everyone needs to be there for my 1st appt.

I would appreciate any advice as I am feeling overwhelmed with it all.

Diagnosed Today

Hi

I just got diagnosed today. I was kind of expecting it to be honest. My mum has been diabetic for years.

Anyway, I just came on the forum to say hello and from what I have read already, this site seems like its full of information and advice so I am just glad its here.

I was diagnosed myself a couple of weeks back. I used to be really fit about 10 years back, but have put on a lot of weight. I like my carbs too but have reduced them to around half and increased fruit and veg (I'm a veggie anyway apart from fish) and am taking only one 500mg Metformin per day. Since starting the new way of eating I've lost a stone in weight without additional exercise and don't feel hungry. I also have much more energy and have started catching up on all the jobs I've felt too tired to do. After 18 months of feeling unwell and previous blood tests not showing up any problems, being diagnosed has been very positive and has changed my life. Just get used to less carbs and you will feel the difference ! I found a little book really helpful, it's a Collins Gem called 'GI' and lists just about everything available to eat. My Diabetic Nurse is very impressed with my progress so far and has said the GI Diet is ideal for me and a good way of controlling my Diabetes. Wish me luck with my next BT and stick with it
