I've now been diagnosed since March.

I've adopted the LCHF diet since April which seems to agree with me (and my wife who is on it with me).

I am three metformin a day,

I exercise by walking and playing table tennis

I test regularly.

I have now lost over a stone in weight.

My average BS over the past month has been 4.7.

Yesterday, I managed to dress in a Uniform that I haven't been able to fit in since 2009 for a WW1 Commemoration service at my local church.

I'm still waiting for an appointment for the Retinal Scan referred for 2 months ago - but a routine eye test two weeks ago saw no signs to worry the Optician.

In some ways the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes has been a wake up call, and most certainly has made me reevaluate how I was living before. A sedentary life style coupled with a diet that was low fat (due to high cholesterol) now completely turned on its head.

So, is this progress or just a holding pattern? Can I assume that I'm now post-diabetic?

Just wondering?

These are very impressive results and you should be feeling very proud of yourself.

There are a few comparisons between us i.e we started lchf at around the same time , test regularly, are on metformin and our weight loss is similar. I too have had a wake-up call and intend to maintain this healthy lifestyle for life.

I'm very much hoping this is progress and will continue. I don't see it as a holding pattern at all. I cannot answer your question about post diabetic, but I'm sure someone more qualified can.

Well done. Lets compare progress from time to time? :)

You are definitely doing great, but I don't really believe we can ever be completely post-diabetics - just healthy, well controlled ones. Consider what might happen if you went back to your previous evil unhealthy ways?

Apologies if I put a damper on your high spirits.

Robbity

PS I'm learning to look on my new lifestyle and diet as a major part of my diabetic "medicine".

Well done @minidvr Good luck with the post-diabetic opinions that will abound.
Do not be disheartened. Or take too much to heart the opinions of those who want to disparage your achievement. You have done very well, Have the right attitude and seem determined to continue to stay well.

Maybe best not to give yourself a label. Others will try to prove you wrong. I learned that from bitter experience, so now I just rejoice that I have had blood glucose readings below diabetic levels for 3years, even on the occasions when I eat high sugar or high carb food. Will that continue? Who knows? But I am doing all that I can to keep it like that. So continuing to try to lose excess weight, exercising and avoiding high carb foods.

Best wishes
Pipp

Thanks for the positive responses. I agree that perhaps like a smoker or recovering alcoholic that it would be all too easy to fall back, but i have no intention of doing so.

I start a course of study, part-time in September, so wan't to be fit and well enough to see it through, and being unwell isn't part of the plans.

My reality check is to look back on my starting bloods in the 8.5 level on my log and see just how far that I have come. :)

With that attitude I am sure you will do just fine.

Stay vigilant. Keep checking in to forum. I really do hope you have beaten diabetes, but it is a sneaky divil, so do not drop your guard.

Best wishes, enjoy your studying.
