Type 2 disgnosed

I'm reading as fast as i can and feel i will be able to do this. It just takes time to sort it all.

My weight is a nuisance. I want to feel better. It's not about the scale or pounds but energy level and a sense of connection to my muscles.

LCHF, a friend wants me to do The Souhth Beach Diet. It sounds basically the same as the Blood sugar 101 plan i am reading about.

I am so tired of the fighting that goes on in your head when you are physically uncomfortable.

I want to wear fun clothes and feel pretty. At 53, i'm aware i've only got 25 more good years.....

South beach diet gluten free opinions?
It seems a fine choice and my friend will be a great support.

The south beach induction is great. Mr B loses massively when he does it. in fact he gets so addicted to the weight loss that he spits his dummy out when the induction phase is over and he is supposed to eat more carbs...

My experience of the south beach was that it was great for low carbing (induction), but the fat levels were a bit low for me. I don't bathe in lard, you understand, but I hate feeling hungry, and always feel hungry if there isn't enough fat in the meal. but that is ok. anyone can fine tune a diet.

certainly, south beach is a good option.

I have a big bag of gluten. I use it to make bread from lower GI flours. Gluten is not bad for diabetics. Rice, potatoes, grains particularly wheat, like bread pasta and cereals are all bad. Eat some and test to see what it does to you. If you BG rises too much, try it with less next time. I did this with rice. By the time I found an amount that didn't give me a spike over 7.5, it was too small to be worth cooking.

Hi Suzanne- hope you find a lot of information and encouragement here, I'm only diagnosed t2 one week ago but have learnt so much already from the lovely folk on the forum! I'm on day 4 low carb high fat and doing ok so far, just need my meds to settle down. Diagnosis was a shock, even though I've been overweight for most of my life. I'm hoping to lose some but wouldn't want to be skinny!! x

Hi I was diagnosed at the beginning of June - my level was 13.8 with a 3 month average of 10.8. I am now testing at 7.4 in the morning. I have achieved this by cutting all bread and potatoes, rice and pasta , cakes and biscuits from my diet. I am also walking an average of 5km per day. I have also been reading a book called - type2 the first year, available from amazon and comes in a kindle version written in plain English with some really good advice.
I won't lie it is not easy and the diabetic nurse was not much help all she seemed keen to do was prescribe. She seemed upset that I had taken the initiative and got my own monitor. If I had waited for her it would have been another 3 weeks after my diagnosis before I started to have any info. Her diet sheet was a classic, advised me to eat bread, potatoes and other high carb foods. Also said I only need to test once a week.
Fortunately I am ignoring her advice and taking control of this myself and I think that is the key.
I think you said you live in Finland - a fantastic country with beautiful landscapes. The government there had a serious issue with health and weight several years ago and they have really turned it round - the Finns are now amongst the healthiest people in the world. Lots of salmon and fish and reindeer is very low in fat.
One thing I have found is energy breeds energy - the more I walk the more I want to walk. In fact the rain has stopped so I off for a quick 3km round the block. Find yourselves an app - I use mapometer.com to map out my walks and measure how far I have gone. Off for my walk.

Hi, I'm Kathryn, from South Yorkshire - and have recently (a few months ago) been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Wish I'd come on here sooner as it seems really helpful. :)

I'm also a broadcast journalism trainee currently doing a story on pre diabetes and type 2 diabetes - mainly to allow me to find out more.

It would be great if anyone with 'pre-diabetes' or Type 2 diabetes was available to do a short interview for my project. It will hopefully advise and educate others.
