Type 2 getting low BG readings, what does it mean?

I am on Metformin, my last Hba1c was 6.1.
I don't get strips on prescription in spite of trying all the wheedling and intelligent argument tactics with GP, so testing occasionally. Recently I've found that I have really quite low post prandial readings, less than 4 sometimes 3.3
Is this something to worry about? What does it mean? I try to eat every four hours and eat slow release carbs, but I don't eat huge portions just 'normal' meals. The other day I had had bran flakes and pear with whole milk, and a slice of whole meal toast with butter and jam. Two and a half hours later 3.2! What's going on? Any light cast is much appreciated.

dont worry be happy

thats my opinion anyway

im often 3.1

as long as you arent ill its fine

i was worried by this but asked and was told its ok so i went with that and so far so good

i made the mistake of thinking i was cured, dont be fooled, if your going to experiment test test test or in my case eat a dominoes pizza, your numbers will give you your focus back hehe

Am I not in danger of going hypo if it drops lower ? I tend to forget to eat quite often, my husband reckons I go 'fluffy' if I've not eaten.

"Below four, you're on the floor"

The general consensus is you could go hypo, make sure you eat.

Why don't you go back to the doctor and discuss either reducing the Met or coming off it entirely?

That was my initial thought too, you may need your meds reducing. It may be as simple as your body reacts well to Metformin, better than most people, and the dose is too strong for you.

Before I was diabetic I remember having hypos. When I was really hungry, I had the shakes, felt weak and a big irritable. I was probably hypo. I measured my girlfriend's levels before and her levels were in the 3s. So it's probably quite normal for non-diabetics to have levels in the 3s. That being said, it could be the metformin. I guess if it happens regularly then best make a trip to your doctor.

Hy hubbie ( T2 for 7 years) is experiencing hypos. We are not sure why as he has not changed anything at all. He came off Metformin as Dr thought it could be that - but he still gets hypos about 3 or 4 times a week. His lowest reading has been 2.8 but often it is 3.5. He does not even feel hypoG at 4 now... so he has developed a pattern of always testing before driving the car , or taking a nap. I was worried about Insulinomas but his last blood tests for Insulin showed normal levels . So we don't know why he is getting hypos.. Jen
