Hi,

Type 2 diagnosed late Feb, reading the wealth of information on here certainly much more useful than the NHS nurse who sent me away with metformin script and told me to keep eating my healthy rice and potatoes :|

Removed virtually all carbs from diet and levels have dropped to an average of 6.2 (last 14 days) was in the teens when diagnosed.

The only issue I'm having so far is with weight training, as was competing in over 40's amateur strongman. Will need to experiment with some carbs around workouts as the gym is a real struggle at the moment. However, if I have to put that on hold for a bit to get the chub off and get the BS stabilised then that's what I'll do.

Would have felt lost if it wasn't for this forum/website, so kudos to the admins and contributors. x

Hi @JPonter and welcome to the forum. Well done for taking your condition head on. You will get lots of good advice and support on here.

Hi @JPonter .. and welcome
Can't help much with the weights training I'm afraid .. my exercise regime is 3 or 4 rounds a week on the golf course  ... but what I can say is that I was in exactly the same position as you when I was diagnosed T2 about 3 weeks ago .. shocked, worried and feeling lost. Since joining this forum, though, the folks here have given me so much info, advice and support that I am now much more confident about the journey ahead .. and actually beginning to consider myself a bit of an "old hand". Still early for me but, in my experience, it gets easier .. very quickly

As others have said, managing and controlling your diabetes through exercise, diet and testing - with or without medication - seems to be the best way forward. For me, committing to an LCHF lifestyle and testing 3-5 times a day, seems to be working .. I have lost a stone since my diagnosis on Feb 7th and my BG levels are down from 12.5 to around 6. There is a wealth of info about LCHF on the forum .. and a wealth of relevant advice and positive support.

Protein is your friend for weights
Hi Walnut_face, it's the effort for exertion that is slowing me down, protein intake is still quite high (not enough for any glucose conversion tho!). I think it's more that my carb levels now are pretty low, and I havent had enough time to adapt for fat as fuel so much. Will have a play with carbs around my exercise window (pre/post) armed with my glucose meter and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply! :)

P.s. that car in my profile pic was 300KG

Hello @JPonter and Welcome to the Forum :). Don't be afraid to ask questions, no matter how daft you might think them to be. We are here to help in whatever we can to offer advice, give support and understanding.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
Good to hear that your getting to grips with everything so well already. Keep plugging at it, things do get easier.
Can't help with the weight lifting issues but I'm sure someone will be able to at some point. If you have any other questions though do ask there's always someone with an answer.
Good luck with every thing.
