Please help. I gave up smoking 6 days ago. I just decided enough was enough and threw them away, along with all signs of smoking. I am really proud of myself as have just stopped and have no aids as such a spur of the moment decision. I am hoping that it will help to control my diabetes and assist me on coming off of the insulin in time. I just wondered how giving up smoking has affected any of you and if you have had a lot of light headedness after giving up??? :D

Light headedness? Might want to get that checked out. Although I still smoke weed I no longer smoke 10-20 cigarettes a day and the /immediate/ effects were feeling less agitated and no longer hacking up nasty gunk from my lungs in the morning. You may have one big clean-out some time soon. Your mucous membranes and cilia are going to be given a chance to perform as normal

Congratulations! You'll definitely feel all the better for it!

Leanne I was a 60 a day red Marlboro junkie until the beginning of last year. Take it a day at a time but be aware you are likely to start snacking and your bs may creep up but over time you can deal with that.

Kicking the smoking is far better for you in the long run and once sorted you can deal with the other issues - just do not try to manage everything at once as that can be really tough.

I did find that smoking did raise my bs levels so you might feel light headed to start with but that is just your body adjusting - look up the stop smoking time line of benefits as they have already started after six days.

Well done you

Congratulations, well done and give yourself a big pat on the back Leanne lea

I did exactly the same thing, 3 1/2 years ago. I just stopped, but found the first couple of days very difficult, so I went to see my GP and he put me in touch with Quit Smoking, the lady was a great help and I still haven't touched a ciggarette  It's just pure willpower, determination and getting the right support can be so beneficial. I wish I had quit years ago. Smoking causes so many health problems, it stops oxygen getting into your body, affecting many vital organs.

Good luck, it's one of the best things I have ever done. I wish you good health and more money in your purse too :D

Best wishes RRB

Hi Leanne, well done so far. I gave up smoking last September after smoking since I was 13 and I am 59 now!!!! so if I can do it then anyone can. It is a long road and it is still very early days for you yet so persevere and don't get too confident and try
"just one". I actually had tried to give up smoking very numerous times over the years but eventually got a prescription for CHAMPIX tablets from Doc and never looked back. If you are interested then just google them.
I agree with Neil, that it will be too easy to substitute eating for smoking, so be aware of that but remember you are not superhuman and take one day at a time and deal with one problem at a time. Best of luck, stick with if you can and remember the very best thing that a person can do for themselvesis to give up the ciggies, Deb x
