Hi all, I have type 2 and currently the nurse has prescribed me Metformin 850 twice a day. I have great trouble sticking to this however as I have problems with my memory and I tend to only manage to take 1 tablet a day on average. I have recently got an Android phone that is reminds me when to take the medication and also a friend helps by sorting my medication into days for me. My question is this, I have heard there are other medications that are slower or extended release i.e. may only need to be taken once a day, is there anyone with experience of these alternatives as I would like to discuss the situation with my diabetic nurse but would like an idea of what medications others are using that I could discuss with the nurse? Thanks for any comments in advance.

Hi,

I'll bump your post up for a reply from someone who uses SR Metformin.

Hi. Yes, Metformin SR (Slow Release) can be taken only once a day if you read the leaflet enclosed with the tablets. If you are not on the SR version I would discuss this with your GP as it would help you only to have one appropriate dose per day.
