Hi ,
I’ve been pre-diabetic for years . I’m 63 . Was sent on NHS Living Well course and did well ! Lost weight and best HbA1c was 44 . Once off course I had personal bad year . Mental health issues, on Sertraline . Lost my way for 1 year . Although I thought eating healthy. I now know too many potatoes , wholemeal bread and as down I was grabbing pistachio croissants and when eating out fish and chips for a pub meal or pasta .
Now latest test was 57 . My nurse not put me on tablets but given me the Dr Unwin low carb sheet . Overwhelming. Feel down like I’ve let myself down . Anyone else on his plan?

All of us on this forum who manage their Type 2 by low carb eating are on Dr Unwin's plan to some level. I'd recommend you listen to this recent podcast which goes into lots of detail about his recommendations and also the different methods of managing and for some putting Diabetes into remission
Edit sorry just realised you are new here - welcome to the forum. Lots of friendly members and many of us can relate to the mental health issues and the blame. Please don't beat yourself up and take it one step at a time - good luck moving forward.

Just adding my welcome @Louise Heys , and agreeing with @shelley262 . Don’t feel guilty for how things have gone for you. Feel proud and strong that you are now willing to address the situation and improve your health.
Many members here do very well on the low carb advice of Dr Unwin.

Your nurse seems to be one of the more enlightened ones , who recognises that for people with T2 diabetes the standard diet advice of carb heavy diet is not helpful.
If you need more info on low carb diets the website
is a good resource.
