Hello and welcome
I'll tag @daisy1 for the intro to the forum.
A lot of us find that eating less carbs of any kind is very good for controlling our blood glucose levels so you don't have to give up cream cheese or red meat. Just maybe the wholemeal bread and watch the fruit consumption.. The veg you are having are great. Hopefully you are on the right track
All the best
Mark

Good morning @wiseowl_123 and welcome to the community. The only thing I would add to your impressive list is a bg meter. Some of the foods you list tend to be carb heavy and some may send bg levels up in some people. It is worth investing in a meter to monitor which foods tend to raise your bg and you may find that cheese and meat are back on the menu but wholemeal bread is out. Have a look at the Low carb section for ideas.

Welcome Wiseowl! Have you changed your diet recently? Any change will reflect in your readings. Are you monitoring them?

As for four slices of bread, well take a reading after a slice to see how much your sugar goes up. It might not be bad!

Bacon is a processed meat so can cause cancer ..... mmm I think I am being wound up! lol

Its only been 3 weeks as yet and no mention of a meter was suggested ,but the Metformin certainl upsets my tummy, and I have lots of anxiety which is difficult to handle most days.

@wiseowl_123 - Hello and Welcome to the Forum :). We all as Diabetics react to different foods. What works for one person in keeping blood sugars low, may send another person's blood sugars high. I eat Hovis Brown Seeded Bread and it has no impact on my Blood Sugars. I occasionally eat Porrigde though made with hot water and when cooled stir in 2 - 3 spoonfuls of Greek Yoghurt. But, by having a Blood Glucose Meter you will be able to test against certain foods to see the effect that foods have on your blood sugars.

Good morning @Liam1955 and thank you for your sound advice ,but having high anxiety and find that my meter level is high will creat a panic for me,but I will get one ,when I feel stronger in being able to deal with a meter, thank you,I shall wait until my 3 months (next blood test)is up and see how I go on from there my friend your advice and indeed everyone's is very much appreciated.

Good Afternoon @wiseowl_123 - Love the Avatar!:)
Worry, Stress, Anxiety and Illness all push up Blood Sugars. Just take one day at a time and don't overload your mind with too much information. It will get better, just watch out for 'hidden sugars' especially in Fruits. Diet and Exercise has more effect on lowering Blood Sugars in Diabetes. And do drink plenty of Water and Sugar free fluids.
Anything you are not sure about? Just ask/post a question - you will probably get several replies. People on this Forum are Friendly, Helpful and Supportive to each other. :)

allegedly... but then again there is a school of thought that says cancers feed off glucose so if you don't put any of that in your body then bacon is fine. Also I think it was that processed meats may increase the risk of cancer. There is no for sure, its all small percentages..

Good afternoon all my @Liam1955 ,this morning (9am)I had one poached egg on one slice of Hovis wholemeal bread.(Midday) one kraft dairy light cheese triangle on one slice of wholemeal bread.,then at 4'o'clock I shall have some fresh grilled salmon and some new small potatoes(3) with Broccoli, carrots, cauliflower I also have one apple and one pare and a orange every day.

Better to eat chicken. If you must eat bacon or processed meat the odd slice only with mustard.

Dairylea cheese ..... Better ordinary cheese. Small portion. I can't do small portions when it comes to cheese!

Welcome to the forum and well done for changing so much already

Hi and welcome. Yes, don't worry about the cheese and meat etc as it's the carbs you need to control. If the Metformin upset doesn't subside do ask for the SR (Slow Release) version. A meter as others have said is essential for all of us. You don't have to test that often; just occasionally 2 hours after meals with food you want to check and understand. Look for a reading below 8.5 mmol where you can but I do occasionally go into the teens so don't panic.
