Has any T2 on insulin had any experience with Mounjaro? The medical consultant at our local hospital (treating me for liver problems) has asked for me to be referred for treatment with Mounjaro but it has to go through various people before it is prescribed: first my GP has to refer me to the dietician (that's done), she has to refer me to the hospital diabetes nurses, they have to see me about it and then they will decide if I can be prescribed it. The dietician has just told me that she has referred me on but it may take some time before I get an appointment with the diabetes clinic. That gives me some time in hand to think about it.

I'm not at all sure whether I want to go down that route, although my weight, despite lchf, has increased hugely (as has my profile). I have managed to reduce my insulin intake, both basal and bolus, but have lots of stomach and gut issues already, so my food intake is also pretty low.

My SIL self-diagnosed and bought Mounjaro but couldn't carry on with it - it made her so ill that she couldn't really eat for several weeks and anything she did eat, didn't stay with her for long. She did lose weight, but then, anyone would, if they couldn't get any food into them for a few weeks.

The dietician told me that she thought that T2s on insulin couldn't have Mounjaro anyway.

Does anyone know any more about this medication and its interaction with insulin or effect on diabetes?

I'm Type 2 and taking both Fiasp with meals and Toujeo daily . I was started on Mounjaro 12 weeks ago with a plan to help lose weight. Initially on 2.5 my now on 5mg. I'm still struggling to lose weight despite regular cardio exercise, pilates and calorie counting. If anyone has any advice as to what else I can do ?
I have found the combination of the insulin and mounjaro has regulated blood sugars with my last HbA1c being 50, down from 56.
I have no complications from my diabetes and was diagnosed 12 years ago.

Good to see that your HbA1c is down. That's a pretty good start and, with that kind of progress, you should soon be down to pre-diabetic levels. Not that you could be non-diabetic if it's only controlled with medication, but it's hopeful. I find that any starchy carbohydrates, however low, both make my BG rise and stay fairly high for many hours, unless I take a large bolus dose of insulin, and makes me put on weight. I don't like it, but keeping starchy carbs out of the diet as far as possible seems to be the only way for me to go. I had 21g starchy carbs yesterday morning and BG was still high this morning. Nevertheless, I had another 21g this morning, in the absence of any other things to have for breakfast.

Have you thought about reducing starchy carbs as far as possible?

Yes, I am on Toujeo and Trurapi and am up to 10mg of Mounjaro. It has drastically helped with reducing the amount of insulin I needed as I am very insulin resistant and mine was prescribed by my diabetic consultant after Daplaflozin caused me very uncomfortable side effects that I couldn’t carry on taking it. I do follow a low carb diet but I have not managed to lose any weight at all on it and boy do I need to lose weight! I did have 6 months on the Ovivo diet pan through the NHS but it did really teach me what I don’t already know. I have tolerated it well, yes I have had times when it has had a couple of unpleasant side effects but you learn from those moments and since then have not had any. So it’s not been the miracle jab for me in terms of weight loss but certainly improved my BG and insulin intake.
