I've been poorly since last friday with a hotting bout of flu and its affected my asthma very badly so I'm on steroids for 5 days aswell as antibiotics . My Blood sugars have risen to 25, I phoned the doctor and she had me straight down to check for keytones which there wasn't any but I'm very anxious now that what to look out for . I only have another 2 days on these steroids. What are the signs to look out for as its frightened me aswell as not being able to breathe with this horrid virus, my numbers are usually 9 to 10 normally

Sounds scary for you, no wonder your BG are high with all you have going on. Are you able to test your ketones at home? If you start to feel worse then don’t hesitate to contact 111

Don’t want to worry or scare you & it’s rare but there is a condition called ketoacidosis, which like I say is rare but I think you should be aware of. Having said that the fact that you had no ketones is good news but keep a close eye on it. If you haven’t got any keto sticks to test can someone nip to the chemist for you, you can buy them over the counter.

The signs to look out for are in this NHS information

Thankyou for your reply, I can get someone to get some yes, have you heard of Bs going so high when on steroids and do you go into ketoacidosis because of it being so high , sorry for all the questions

I have had similar with asthma when I have a virus, @maxjoe121 .
I stay upright to sleep, either propped up in bed or a recliner chair.
If you are struggling call NHS111, to ask for advice.
Are the steroids a 5 day course? I usually feel better able to breathe after day 4. Usually need antibiotics too.
